Marilyn's Monster

Do you have your monster yet?
Read this at the elementary school to K and 1st graders, then to my Toddler Storytime kids - all age groups loved it and I l enjoyed reading it. The illustrations have a lot of fun things to look at, so one on one, it would be a great book to share with your child, for a group, the monsters are fun and engaging, and it's pretty cool what you find out about Marilyn's Monster.

beautiful squared
This is a beautiful, concise, and fulfilling story, with a sweet and empowering message, and beautiful illustrations. The kids had MANY favorite parts of the story, and all wanted to read aloud. There's no room in the story for a sequel, but I hope the author and illustrator team up again!

I love this book
I love this book. The story of Marilyn waiting for her very own monster to show up is warm, charming, and riveting, and Matt Phelan does a brilliant job of capturing the hope, humor, and angst she feels along the way. A favorite for sure.

This book is so awesome (by Kara, 10)
This book about a group of kids who all get monsters while one doesn't is sweet and funny. Marilyn doesn't do things by the rules. But that's okay. For fans of The Monstore!

Great book!
We bought this for our 4 year old son and he enjoys the book very much. The story line is good and easy to follow. It also teaches a good lesson about not following others and waiting for what’s right for you. Great book.

Buy this book for your young daughter.
As a mum, this is one of my favourite books. It teaches children that just because that's what everyone is doing, it doesn't mean it's the only way and it doesn't mean it has to be the right way for you. My four-year-old really likes this book as well. Also, the illustrations are superb. This is one of the books I give to other children for their birthdays. (And it subtly undermines the patriarchy in the sister/brother relationship.)

Could mean different things to different people but whatever it's meaning it's just a really sweet story.
