Ok first things, there are no instructions on the listing or with the net concerning how to use the ring, so I went to YouTube and found videos with similar nets to gt instructions. And on the subject of the ring, it is not the blue ring with the slots that is in the description. That one is supposed to allow you to throw it like a frisbee and force the net open. This is just a plain aluminum ring.Outside of that, the ring does help to position the net in the hand, helps to hold it open, and makes it easier to get a good throw. After 2 tosses, I was getting a consistant throw with it fairly easily. The waits, netting, line, and cuff are all sturdy. I imagine it will last a good while. If you are looking for net that has something to assist you in getting to open better, this does help. I will get plenty of use out of it when we head to the beach.
