I can't believe how great these are. I wanted dumbbells that were 2 lbs each, and green is my favorite color. So lucky me that I was able to get dumbbells that were both 2 lbs and green. They are really small. Tiny even. But the perfect size for my hands. Just what I wanted and needed. I'm a male and I wanted small dumbbells to do lateral raises. I was using canned food for weights, but this is so much better. And since they are 2 lbs each instead of 16 oz like my canned food, they have a little more of a burn when I do the lateral raises. If I could change anything, it would be to maybe make the ends of the dumbbells completely flat so they can stand up vertically. But it's okay. They take little to no room when lying down horizontally and the curved ends makes them aesthetically pleasing, since every edge and the grip is curved as well.

I am a physical therapist and I ordered the 20 lb Day 1 Fitness dumbbells for my clinic since I did not have anything over 10 lbs. Being in an office building and not a gym setting, it was important to have a softer, protective coat for patient's (and my floors!) and was pleased with these. I like the bigger handle on them and the grip feels somewhat "cushiony" in my hands. So far no complaints from patients and no one has dropped them which is my number one concern with heavier weights - patient safety. Used for farmer carry, overhead carry, turkish get-up, squats, etc. Some dumbells either don't have enough grip or are too harsh on the hands for more advanced exercises like these, but this dumbbell can be used like a dumbbell and like a kettlebell.Pros: Good protective coating, soft feeling and comfortable in hands, larger handle.Cons: Possibly larger handle (don't know what the other weights are like).Dumbbells aren't rocket science, but I've used some bad ones...these do the job and do it well. Highly recommend.

Review for both 12 lb pair and 20 lb single:First off, I want to thank Day 1 Fitness for not price gouging during the pandemic. My research has led me to dumbbells being fairly valued between $1.00 to $1.50 / lb. These came in roughly on the high end of fair value so I was more than happy to buy. I bought the 12 lb pair and two-20 lb singles.These are being used at least once a week and they are great. I did not find any sort of damage, unpleasant smells, defects, etc. Just open it up, quick inspection, and lock and load. Thank you!*** Handles - Note, some reviewers felt Day1 dumbbell handles are obscenely large. I personally didn't feel there is anything wrong with these, and actually, I like the slight rounded/convex shape to the handle. Feels better in my hands than a flat bar.

The material used makes it easy to grip and hold not slippery, and they each fit just snug in my small to medium hands!!

The 8 lb dumbbells were just what I wanted at a reasonable price and arrived before the date promised - so it's all good there. But I have to say I was even more impressed with the printed card that came with the order. This company proactively assures you (in a charming way) that it wants to do everything it can to make sure you're happy with your purchase. "We know things haappen! Missing parts? Damaged in transit? (don't you hate it when the carrier dropkicks your package!?!) Broke during assembly or use? If you have ANY issues/problems WHATSOEVER, give us a chance to make it right!" Makes me want to buy more from them.

Solid dumbbell set, though there are obvious inconsistencies with them. As you can see in the photo, they are slightly differently shaped and lumpy. This is more of an aesthetic issue than anything, though I docked them a star because I hate that they are not flat on the ends (though one is more flat than the other). I often like to set my dumbbells on their ends while using, and these are not shaped to do that. Other than that (and the fact that my first set I ordered was lost in the mail), this is a great buy. They’ve held up well for these first few months of use.

Solid little dumbbell set. The vinyl coating is my favorite part. It is durable and build to last. I especially like the color scheme with the vinyl making it much easier to identify which weight it what (no more fumbling to read numbers). The coating gives a solid grip that makes it stick to your hand even when your sweating for much better control. Plus It's one solid piece of weight so you don't have to worry about changing plates or plates spinning around during a work out. Finally, it is surprising compact. I bought up to the 20# dumbbell and I was pleasantly surprised that when I re-racked all my weights I ended up with about 30% more rack space compared to my old set. Guess I have to buy more stuff to fill it up!!

Got these as a Valentine's gift for my wife. Yeah, Valentine's Day gift. We've taken to exercising to Youtube videos instead of going to gym during the last year. The weights are perfect for my wife not too heavy but with enough weight to add resistance to her workouts. Makes the only exercise period more effective. They are easy to handle because of the neoprene cover and they are easily stored. We may be getting a second set that is a little heavier to add more resistance. Works well for us. She likes to share.
