Easy to clone your sensors, need the programmer
Notice that all the negative reviews are from people that did not read the description and instructions that you need the dorman programmer. You can't just drop them off at the dealer and expect them to program them.I purchase these for my winter tire set so that I didn't have to reprogram/relearn the car computer for new sensor IDs. I use the same sensor IDs that are on my summer Tires and when I put them on the car doesn't know the difference in it just works. I've purchased more than 12 of these sensors with no issues at all, in fact they're fabulous. I keep track of my summer, winter and tire rotations by using the TPMS IDs that I scan with a scanner I also bought. It's also working out really well for me because I'm getting to buy the amazon return sensors from the people that don't read the directions for a really good price!

Poor Customer Service
I took my 2009 Mercedes GL450 to a mechanic to switch out my original tire sensors. I ordered two and then ordered the other two when the mechanic explained that he's done this job before however none of the sensors worked. When I notified this company all the representive did was question me about the tools the mechanic used and argue via email with me. I was told by the mechanic that he's worked for Mercedes dealerships and was aware of the proper tools necessary however Kevin continued. Finally, If you make any type of product, there is always the possibility that they may not work but arguing with the customer speaks volumes of the companies service, how the value their customers - or lack there of-, as well as the expectations of the employees/owners. I will NEVER recommend and will continue to write reviews about this poor experience.Below is a copy of one of the emails...Chastity,If they only worked at Mercedes Dealerships, its entirely likely that he does not have a Dorman Multi-Fit programming tool as we are an aftermarket parts producer. The 974-302 Multi-Fit TPMS sensor can ONLY be programmed by a Dorman Multi-Fit programming tool. If they do not have this tool the WILL NOT be able to program these TPMS sensors.Regards,Kevin

Programming required BEFORE installation, re-learn after. Special programmer required!
An extremely high quality product, yet totally worthless if you do not own the programmer. Don't assume "programmer" means "re-learn tool" like I did, these sensors require actual programming BEFORE installation and then the normal re-learn after installation. The lowest Dorman programmer I found was around 250 dollars, I'll just buy a pre-programmed sensor instead.

Great product. Works as advertised.
Great product. Works as advertised. You effectively clone the sensors that have gone bad (usually due to battery depletion). This system eliminates the need for very expensive TMPS tools to adapt new sensors to your vehicle. You must have the programming tool 974-503 to program sensor 974-301 or 974-302 with the proper communication protocol for your specific vehicle and to enter the serial number of the TPMS sensor you are replacing. The serial number is not always easy to identify amongst the other numbers on the old sensor so the tool even shows you a graphic where to find the serial number on your specific sensor.(Very important) If you use the serial number from an old sensor (clone) you must take the old sensor far away from your car or the old sensor will transmit bad conflicting data to your TPMS system. It appears to me that most if not all of the bad reviews are due to a lack of understanding how this system works or they failed to remove the old sensors from the area.

Good Product But Needs Dorman's Attention
I'm an electrical engineer by day but I had problems with this, mostly people problems that could be fixed with effort. This TPMS sensor ships "blank", i.e. without any digital address stored in it. The theory is that the user owns a Dorman 974-503 programmer tool that will store into a blank 974-301 sensor the address of a factory TPMS sensor whose battery has died. In other words, the programmer allows you to clone dead factory sensors. There are several variants of TPMS technology, each offering differing encoding format and frequency. You need the Dorman sensor that matches your car's technology. Dorman's blank sensors are not multi-format nor frequency agile.Dorman also markets a pre-programmed sensor intended for the sophisticated user (auto repair shops) who is equipped with the vehicle manufacturer's factory diagnostic tool. Dorman's name for these sensors (Direct-Fit) often confuses users who really want the cloneable Multi-Fit sensors. The 974-503 programmer tool is poorly designed but does work once you figure out how the user interface functions. The tool (and unfortunately the owners manual) were designed in Asia by non-English speakers. The manual is essentially worthless, but Dorman has a good tech support phone number accustomed to getting calls about Multi-Fit.Dorman would help its customers if it rewrote the owners manual and stopped making a distinction between Direct-Fit and Multi-Fit by making the Direct Fit sensors reprogrammable like the Multi-Fit sensors.

Highly Recommended!
I purchased this kit in order to clone my OEM Sensors and have 1 set of winter wheels and 1 set of summer wheels for my 2011 Honda Accord. Installation was a breeze, just dismount the tire, copy the sensor ID and program the new sensor, and install the Dorman sensor and mount the tire. Additionally, I contacted Dorman prior to this purchase and confirmed this information with their Sales Support team, who was very friendly and informative. I would recommend this product highly to anyone who is looking to get around the TPMS light problem in regards to wheels.
