In the 1950’s, Morinaga was trying to create a new kind of chewing gum for Japan. Back then, it was very impolite to take food out of your mouth. So Morinaga tried to create a more culturally accepted version of chewing gum—one that could be swallowed. Fortunately, Morinaga already made outstanding caramel with a uniquely chewy, creamy texture. It was unlike anything else in Japan. In 1956, natural strawberry flavor was added to the caramel recipe and Chewlets was born. Then in 1975, after decades of hard work perfecting the recipe, Morinaga re-introduced Chewlets to Japan as the wonderful candy we now know as HI-CHEW. Since then, HI-CHEW has been produced in over 170 flavors and become the most popular chewy candy in Japan.

These are an absolute staple item in my pantry... my purse... AND my car lol!
I found the actual 10pk (like the normal hichew pkg) on a drugstore clearance shelf...for 23cents. I bought a pack tried one and immediately went back and bought the entire stock of the grapefruit sours! They are AMAZING. But while these individually wrapped ones are the same in flavor/texture, having to open each piece one at a time, leaving all those plastic wrappers seems... well, unnecessary! Pleeease bring back the big carton of the little peelback original pkg(like all the other hi chew flavors) Right now i buy 1bag a month, but if you bring back the packs i will prolly buy 2per month😁or more!

Good flavor, but about half the bag was HARD
I love Hi-Chew. They are my favorite non-chocolate candy! This flavor is very tasty, with a subtle artificial citrus flavor and a fun, gritty texture in the center. Most of my bag was very soft and chewy like they should be... but about half were pretty hard and unsatisfactory... Perhaps I got a dud batch? I do prefer the tropical flavors and Cola type more.

Tingly cheeks...
I don’t like candy. At all. But I like tart and sour food. However, I must make an exception as this candy has me ADDICTED!! I’m in love with the lemon, grapefruit and lime. If you like your cheeks to tingle and have explosive flavor in your mouth to the last morsel, then this is the candy for you!

way too sweet
Flavor is nice but was hoping for something with more body. These are def "jellies". One bite & "squish"! Would be more enjoyable if NOT also rolled in sugar crystals, over-the-top sweet. Won't order again but is of good quality.

Love it
I absolutely love hichew and, to me, grape is the best flavor. So happy when I found this 2lb bag. I had previously bought the assorted bags and they were mostly mango with a few of the other flavors and I can't stand the mango hichew..
