Hmmm…sounds like a lot but that’s what I use
I listen to a variety of podcasts that discuss health and longevity. On one of them addressed the benefits of coffee and the host made it clear that Robusta beans have more healthy chemicals than Arabica. Specifically it would appear Robusta has more chlorogenic acids (CGA). However, it should be noted that CGA is significantly reduced by roasting. Robusta also has more caffeine than Arabica. As most of you know, the darker the roast the more you reduce the caffeine in either bean. I have confirmed this information about the Robusta vs. the Arabica with other sources.I bought this coffee to test what I have read about a 100% Robusta cup of coffee. Robusta is reputed to be more bitter, traditionally used for Italian roast expresso.I always grind my coffee right before I use it. This is another attempt to maximize the health benefits.I use the Aero Press. I used the scoop that comes with the Aero Press and used two scoops. I have measured this and the scoop is almost exactly 2 tablespoons. So I use 4 tablespoons per cup. Hmmm…sounds like a lot but that’s what I use. I grind it on the finest grinder setting on my mill. I measured the amount resulting from the grind and it was almost exactly 4 tablespoons.I use an electric kettle to heat the water and shut it off before boiling. I actually measured the temp of the water I used and it was 183F. I have no idea if that is good or bad. I just remember someone telling me boiling temperature is too high so….I poured 1 ½ cups of the heated water in the Aero Press in stages, stirring as I did. This allows for an almost completely filled cup of coffee (some of the water is absorbed by the coffee). The taste was certainly not as smooth or floral as I am used to. It was a bit bitter, but not in a bad way. I was excepting much worse from some of the reviews I read. I believe it is quite drinkable, even tasty in a different way. If you like expresso than this may really be to your liking. Had a smoky tone. Some distant bitter cocoa like flavors. Maybe a bit of cereal but not overwhelming. I could drink this daily with no problem.

Tastes great
Loved the coffee. Ordered August 2018 and the bag received expired October 2018. Wish I would have gotten a fresher bag. I bet that would have tasted even better. I will order again because it was really good tasting. Good thing we drink coffee in the mornings.

Stale.
Every 2 weeks, I order a different single-origin whole-bean coffee. I'm touring the world of coffee . . . through Amazon. This one arrived with a small hole in the bag, so I didn't have very high expectations after that. The coffee smelled like cheap stale hotel instant coffee, probably due to the hole in the bag (refer to picture). The foil it's packaged in is also VERY thin, that you can see light come in through the creases, so I'm sure that didn't help prevent it from being punctured. (refer to 2nd picture)Although the coffee has a sticker saying it's best to enjoy before October 2018 (5 months from now) which implies freshness, but it was so stale it was a bit overwhelming.I don't think that was supposed to be part of the "flavor profile" of the coffee, but I did brew a cup, but I really can't get past the stale flavor.

The best robusta beans for the price....
I have seen several reviews commenting about the beans not being fresh, mine were fresh as can be. Maybe I am lucky but this is fantastic coffee. Robusta gets a very bad rap due to it being used in most of the commercially mass marketed varieties, but I have been hooked on robusta since trying a few of the very good varieties available here on Amazon. These beans make a very consistent cup, not very acidic, earthy and very smooth. It also works very well in cold brew applications. In fact, cold brewing really lets robusta shine with it's subtle complexities. In standard pour over or vacuum brewed methods, it has a classic....but not cheap...flavor and rich body. I have grown to greatly prefer it over most arabica beans.

Stale beans!!
I received stale coffee beans. You should list the date they were roasted on the package, and not list the when they should be used by date. I don’t know if the package was defective, but air obviously got to the beans because they were unusable.
