Love this product and company!
I'm really glad I bought this for my hiking/camping trip. It is very durable and because it all fits together it was easy to pack without taking up too much room. It's also very lightweight so it didn't add unnecessary weight to my pack. I really like that material used for the collapsible cup. It acts almost like a hand warmer when you add a hot drink too it, without it being too much heat to hold. This was very nice with my coffee in the morning after a cold night.I also like that the bottom part of the main container is as deep as it is. I was able to put a full can of Campbell's soup without it coming too close to spilling. Like the cup, I was able to hold the container with hot soup in it without hurting my hands. I really like the little slot on the side to stick your spork when not using it.I will definitely be looking at buying other products from this company.

Extremely well designed and built.
Extremely well designed and built. You're paying for a premium product and you're getting one. It's great for basic lunches and camping.Dish - Decent size for the backpacker. I like how it will hold food in thanks to the wall. I love the sport holder!Bowl - Great size.Cup - Although it's a great idea, there are some issues. You can accidentally squeez liquid out of since the bottom 2/3 is rubber. Be careful with it. Also, I wish it was a larger cup. Campers need to drink lots of water!Cutting board - I personally think this is an unnecessary addition, however I'm not a gormet chef out in the woods.Snack bins - Great additions to it whether you keep them in the whole set or not. Very tight seal and quality plastic. Not waterproof, but not supposed to be.Spork - Standard camping 3-in-1 sport. I replaced it with their titanium version. It packs down well and is very convenient. I love the color options for different families and groups.

Comparison of Meal Kit 2.0 vs. Meal Kit (1.0)
I bought 2 sets of the original Meal Kit (let's call it 1.0) and loved the quality and design. So, I just purchased two sets of the new Meal Kit 2.0 for the rest of my family. You get a few more pieces for about the same price as the 1.0. The 2.0 has an extra oval snapbox, a rubber band harness and a more normal shaped cup (the 1.0 has a bowl-like cup). I am amazed that the additional oval snapbox can still nest into the same amount of space! This is definitely a marvel of design. However, there are some compromises for 2.0.The pack-up cup is shaped like a small coffee cup (only 8 oz capacity). Its bottom 2/3 is rubbery and can be pushed into the colored rim to reduce the cup's height when not in use. The hinge connecting the lid to the cup is flimsy - just a very thin piece of plastic that already showed signs of wear after opening and closing the lid. (Note, Light My Fire has address this issue. My RED set had the flimsy cup hinge but the ORANGE set had an extra rubber backing to the hinge. I think this new design will be far more durable.) Also, since the rubber base is flexible, you have to be careful not to squeeze the base or else liquid will spill out, much like a juice box.No spice container is included in this set. However, since you have much room in the long snap box, you can add in spices in zip lock bags (or very tiny spice jars) and store them there.Unlike the 1.0 which has a color coordinated slicing board, the 2.0 has the boring gray slicing board regardless of the color of the set. This is disappointing but not a deal-breaker for me.The rubber harness that ties up the entire set is a good enhancement to ensure keep the lid tightly in place while in transit. As the 1.0 has a squat cup and a lanyarded lid, there is no hinge to break to worry about. Of course, you have a very squat cup/bowl.Besides camping, I also use these containers for my daily lunch and snacks. They are far more durable than the Rubbermaid bowls. Both the 1.0 and the 2.0 are well-designed and high quality mess kits. If you prefer a more standard cup, go with the 2.0. If you can live with the bowl-shaped cup, go with the 1.0. For my situation, I am keeping my 2 sets of 1.0 and 2 sets of 2.0 to hopefully have the best of both worlds.Note, the original set is very slightly smaller than this 2.0 set so the large bowl and lid from original Meal Kit are not compatible with this Meal Kit 2.0.

Love, love, love it! The perfect mess kit for camping - especially with the Boy Scouts!
I can't say strongly enough how awesome this little meal kit is. I needed something for myself and my son for Boy Scout camping. Space is always at a premium so I love how this packs away so neatly. The kit includes 3 containers for eating, a strainer, a collapsible cup, and a spork. I have a little trouble getting the plastic strap on but the outer lid keeps dirt out of my food no matter what! I just happened to find this product on Amazon but I noticed that about half of the Boy Scout dads in our troop use this kit too. I like that there are a variety of bright colors to make it easy to identify who owns which kit. So pleased with this purchase!!! I also liked that the seller followed up twice via email to ensure everything was great with this product.

Plastic piece that holds kit together snapped after 3 uses within 3 weeks. Not impressed!
I love this mess kit. It's really amazing how many small things can fit into this little kit! However, the main reason for my poor review was that only 3 weeks into using the kit, the elastic/plastic piece that holds the kit together snapped. I have only had this mess kit for a short period of time and I am VERY disappointed that it didn't even last a month before something broke.Overall, if you just need the mess kit, this is a great product. However, if you're relying on the plastic piece to hold it together to make sure nothing spills out, then I would shop somewhere else.
