I love the way Maria Von Trapp writes
I love the way Maria Von Trapp writes. She loves Jesus and inspires others to love Him. I try to re-read her books every year, especially at Christmas. So many contemporary Christian books are trendy and self-helpy and driven. Her words are comforting and interesting but still challenge me to grow closer to God without the angst I get from other books. She loved her family and they read and studied the Bible together in a casual and conversational way. How rare these days! My husband and I are trying to do more of this in our family.

Very Inspiring
Dr. Rupert Von Trapp (which is the oldest of the Von Trapp boys was my doctor when I was a child in Adamsville RI, and I did see Maria a few times when she visited, but never knew how devoted she was to God, until I read this book, her story is so inspiring, I wish I could have spoken to her, but this was way before the movie so I had no idea just who the Von Trapp's were, all I knew that the doctor's wife and one of his daughters had polio.

Great example for the rest of us!
I really enjoyed this book. Maria von Trapp shares her research of trying to fill in the gaps of Jesus's missing years, uses that history to help her family, and the story develops into how she shares that knowledge with others. I love how she maintains we must do all we can to get to know our Savior, Jesus, then apply that knowledge to how we can encourage others to do the same. Sweet stories shared from the heart make this an absolute read!

While I enjoy reading Maria's life tales, she gets a bit preachy on Catholicism in this one
While I enjoy reading Maria's life tales, she gets a bit preachy on Catholicism in this one. We thoroughly enjoyed reading The Sound of Music, by this same author. But this one was just half as interesting to me, because of the strong religious conversion undertones in the book. Others may thoroughly enjoy this one, though.

my faith has been strengthened
Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. How refreshing to discover that the real Maria brought her family together through the love of Jesus. It was interesting how she paralleled some events in her life with the Bible story. While reading the book, I experienced the times and stories of Jesus through the research Maria did along with her family in order to answer the children's pressing questions. This is a book that will impact your spiritual life .

So enlightening!
Well written in personal experiences, scripture, thought provoking questions and family. Maria Von Trapp has a deep love of family and translates her deep faith by sharing with all who care to read from the heart. She gave me great insight into my own faith and my love of my Heavenly Father. I recommend this book to all who are looking for a deeper walk with the Lord.

How to Live, Love and Die!
This is a book for 'Yesterday, Today and Forever because it puts into perspective the 'why' we are here and the 'how' of going about our lives. It helps us to understand the importance of dealing with the obstacles in our lives, and the joy of knowing that we are not alone, when life gets tough. Yes, I am a Christian, and a Catholic like Maria, and she made our redemption through the life of Christ, easier to understand, and embrace. She uses the Bible and many religious works, including the works of Josephus, for a proper understanding of Jewish thought and history, up to and around the time of Christ. These ideas are interwoven through the wonderful story of Maria and her family. I love this book, and recommend it to everyone. It's NOT preachy, and opens up a whole new perspective on the struggles of a family, and how they persevered. Hoorah!!!We need their spirit today. It's delightfully different from any book I have read before, and it's just my opinion.

The true story of Maria
If you want to know the true story, read a book like this. She is telling you what really happened. If you want a Fairy Tale then watch the film, and you'll never truly understand how it all went down.As with so many stories reading from the horse's mouth gives us the straight facts, and that's something movies seldom provide. The soft cover I obtained is slightly worn near the edges. Have not seen a good hard copy.
