So far... it works, sort of, a couple of hitches, and workarounds.
So far... it works, sort of. So I have an old Sony av receiver (circa 08-09). One of those all-in-one box things where you'd get a bunch of lower end speakers, decent subwoofer, AV receiver and it was supposed to work with a matching Blu-ray player. Now the audiophiles would say, upgrade your system, it's not compatible with an audio return channel (ARC), the speaker are crap, and the surround sound decryption is antiquated, and it doesn't work with modern audio standards like ATMOS. Blah blah blah, Meh. I like hearing sound around me when I watch a movie, I don't really care if it's not 'perfect'. This $20-ish box makes it possible to extract the ARC to an optical audio output that my receiver can play in full 5.1 Dolby surround sound. It also transfers the signal the devices I have connected to the AV receiver onto the TV. It basically bridges the gap to make the audio receiver work more or less the way it was designed to work, but with a 4k newer TV. There are a couple of hitches. First, if your receiver/tv is like mine, you'll probably lose the full functionality of the CEC standard. My TV now thinks the audio extractor box is the AV receiver. So the volume control out of my tv remote that I used to have is now DOA. This is problematic because my kids are sort of used to having one remote that does everything. They looked like deer in headlights when they pushed the volume button up and it didn't go up. CEC still somewhat still works, for example if I turn on a game system connected to my receiver the TV will automatically flip over to that hdmi input. CEC is a funky thing because each hardware manufacturer implemented it differently so I'm guessing I was mostly lucky that it just 'worked' when I directly connected my TV to my receiver (but that way I was only able to get stereo sound). Second, you might experience a strange glitch where the TV doesn't recognize the ARC extractor. There are tons of videos online on how to deal with this, as this is a fairly common issue. What worked for me is that I just unplugged all the power cables to all the devices (tv, receiver, arc extractor) and the hdmi cables, then I came back 10 minutes later and everything worked again. It's annoying, but kind of to be expected from what I've seen of similar products. Hopefully it's a rare occurrence that the arc box stops playing with the TV. My workaround so far so the kids can keep using the TV more or less the way they've always used it is to flip the audio over to the TV speakers in the settings when I'm not using it. Also, I had an old harmony universal remote lying around from an older tv I used to use with this receiver that was not CEC capable. I just dusted that thing off (for my use only --- a new one is listed for $260 here on Amazon - What?!?!?!?) for when I want to sit down and watch something like Dune in surround sound. Harmony remotes work pretty well for this use case scenario. If you find yourself doing this extractor method, losing CEC, and you can find a used one online for a good price, pull the trigger. It's worth it. Anyways this review is a lot longer than I planned, but I think I hit everything. Good luck and enjoy your surround sound once again!

Tech phone support was excellent in this case
Just received product. Initially attempted to configure using the logic of labelling on the item. Could not get the product to work between my Samsung TV and Insignia Soundbar. Swapped out HDMI cables twice and SPDIF cable twice without success. Reboxed and ready to return when noted the support phone number on the container box. Called and was informed that I had erred in using labelling logic. Instead of inserting the HDMI ARC cable into the IN slot; I needed to insert it into the OUT slot! Well, unboxed everything and rewired. Note: follow the guidelines provided in Reviews on June 30, 2023, by Turner, for Samsung TVs. Turned on TV and soundbar, SUCCESS. Thank you, Tech Support. Two drawbacks to note, first, as explained on the Amazon page, the TV volume control on the remote no longer functions. Soundbar volume is adjusted from the soundbar remote. Second, the Accessibility, Multi-output Audio feature does not work with this HDMI ARC configuration. Assuming all continues well, I recommend the product.

Great 4K product HDMI and for powering Zone 2 speakers
I have 3 devices. A Roku Ultra, a Denon Receiver with zone 2 amps, and a Samsung 75” TV! I wanted to utilize the EXD2 to break out audio to feed the zone 2 amp, and power my remote speakers. All in all, I purchased 3 J Tech devices in an effort to separate an audio feed from the HDMI awhile leaving the audio and video intact for the TV. The first one failed to break out the audio, while still providing audio and video via the HDMI for the TV. I was advised my J Tech help desk that I had purchased the wrong model J Tech device, and recommended the EXD2 model. I purchased my first EXD2 model. I wired it with an HFMI cable from the Roku to the input on the EXD2. Then another HDMI cable from the EXD2 to the TV. I also had an optical cable from the EXD2 to the Receiver. Analog outputs from the EXD2 were feed to my one 2 inputs on the Receiver. were feed to Another HDMI cable came from the Receiver to the TV. It functioned perfectly for the first week, then proceeded to drop the video to the TV. I returned that device, and received a replacement EXD2. It functioned perfectly for about a week, then started dropping the video, just like the first one I had. I called the help desk and they suggested trying a different input on the Receiver input. I tried a different input, and it worked for the videos. However, it then dropped the audio for my zone 2. I once again called the help desk, and they suggested wiring around the Receiver and not through it. That is, sending the HDMI a cable from the Roku directly to the TV, instead of through the Received. Well, that worked for the video, but resulted in loss of control over the audio volume. I called the help desk again and they had no additional suggestions. The J Tech folks were very nice and helpful, but could never seem to get the device functioning properly. After all this, I gave up.I ended up buying another audio out device from another manufacturer and it works great. No dropping of the video to the TV, or the zone 2 audio. And I did not have to wire around the Receiver. The HDMI cable from this device went through the Receiver, giving me volume control. Cost $26. All of the devices I have mentioned here pass 4K 60 Hz video.
