a side by side comparison
I purchased Goody (brand) Bobby Pins (I guess they're calling these items "roller pins" now...) this past week, and after reading reviews and spending a lot of time trying to find these larger pins, I wanted to give others hunting for these what they truly look like. This first photo is a comparison of an old (25 years at least!) bobby pin I have with one of the new Goody Bobby Pin. I had read some reviews saying these newer pins were narrower and not as well made as the 'old' ones. Well, I have some of those old ones, and I lined one up against the newer Goody brand bobby pin. The old booby pin is on the left, and the new Goody bobby pin is on the right. You can see that the Goody bobby pins are just a tiny bit longer than my old ones, 2⅝ inches long for my old bobby pin, and 2¾ inches long for the newer pins. Not hardly a difference worth mentioning, I'm thinking. And as for the quality? The new ones have a smooth finish like my old one USED to have, so it glides into my hair effortlessly. The new bobby pin seems to be quite strong, with the metal it is made of being just about the same as wide as the old pins, the only difference being the loop at one end of the Goody pin has a much smaller loop than the old pins.I am happy with my purchase! I recommend these Goody pins to everyone.

same as ever, which is a good thing
If you have long hair you know these bobby pins. It is a shame there are none locally and we have to go to Amazon to find them, but they are here! As I recall, we got triple this amount for half the money a few years ago, but here we are.I have very long hair, and use my curling iron to give the ends a little control. Clip in one of these per curl while it cools, and 20 minutes later, I have great looking hair.

Goody makes the best long hairpins for rollers!
Goody are my favorite Bobby pins for setting my hair in rollers. I’m glad Amazon had them, because it’s been hard to find them locally - and shorter pins do not work. Great Amazon carries Goody hair products

not the same
WAY back in the 1900's I'd use these pins to secure a bun on top. Worked great and these do too. The difference is - compared to the ones of yore - these are VERY THIN width. It makes it pretty difficult to get a grip and use. Also the tension is unbelievable. These are difficult compared to what I was expecting. The tip which is covered with a ball of plastic is also very tiny and it, again, makes it really hard to get the thing spread apart so you can actually use it. It works fine. It's just different and the difference is huge.
