Lives up to expectations, the only thing missing is the visual we have enjoyed.A few songs lean on the hooks, but overall strong compositions.

Some great horn arrangements by Jerry Hey
"Off the charts" talent. Some great horn arrangements by Jerry Hey. I would rank this group's talent with Pentatonix - unbelievable!

Five Stars
What a great trio. They are all excellent musicians who play with a lot of gusto.

Brief glimpses of brilliance, but otherwise not the great record I'd hoped for...
I'm a little sad. Since the Loops began posting their jazzified versions of various pop tunes on You Tube, with memorable, spot-on, lip-synced videos, I have been chomping at the bit for their debut album of original tunes, and their invasion of America and the world. I wanted to believe this would be one of the more memorable debut albums in years, with the unique approach (pop/jazz fusion?) these guys have developed. Regrettably, the wait was not rewarded...this disc is a huge disappointment to me. There's something for everyone here, but therein lies the problem--it's an olio of mostly mediocre and predictable pop confections, with none of the syncopation and chord progression surprises we have all come to love about their cover versions. Although I thought this was to be a record of original compositions, I've also come to learn that they're NOT all originals. From the start, I found the track sequencing of this disc questionable--there is simply no cohesive flow to the way the tunes have been lined up. The outstanding leadoff track "Hit Me" is followed by two vapid and musically uninteresting tunes, "Sexy Girls" and "Sayonara Love." I think my biggest problem with these tunes (and some others) is orientation toward the Euro-Trash disco crowd. If that's where they want to head, then I guess DL won't hold much future interest for me.After those throwaway tunes in the second and third slots, along comes an outstanding remake from one of their Swedish contemporaries (ɅVICII): "Wake Me Up." I didn't know this was a cover until it was pointed out to me, but it is a 180 from the typical bombastic DL style--still, it's a nice arrangement, and a perfect melding of their pop/jazz instincts. Love the instrumental coda that replicates the ɅVICII record, eventually leading into a too short DL jam in the style we all love. Perhaps that's what's lacking the most on this entire record; there are fewer jazz/fusion moments overall. "The Way She Walks" is another standout, due in no small part to the piano and drum solos. An example of maudlin excess is the song, "It Hurts." Needless to say, it hurts just to sit through that song. heh hehRather than be obsessively negative (or going into a personal and dull track-by-track assessment), let me just summarize by saying there are many redeeming although randomly-placed moments on this record, but a lot of the songs are simply not very interesting musically, and as such won't earn a place in my ongoing listening rotation. I would say there are at most 3--out of 14--songs I will extract to my MP3 player for current listening...the rest is forgettable "ca-ca" (as they call excrement in the romance languages...LOL),Nobody can fault Henrik Linder on bass...he's just awesome in his choices and execution--and a great visual contrast in his emo punk guise to the others. Aron Mellergardh shows his chops quite a bit more than he has in the past on this record, and sounds like a worthy Dave Weckl protege to me. Jonah Nilsson is simply amazing, of course, both as a keyboardist and singer. The only thing I don't care for is the Justin Bieberish vocals on a lot of the tunes.I was pondering as I listened to this disc several times to be sure of my disappointment, how satisfying could this band be live, playing these icky songs? As a trio, with two members who don't sing, they could only replicate these heavily layered tracks by taking along a cadre of backup musicians and singers, or a rack of synth modules loaded with the programming from the record. I would imagine they opt for the latter.Last thing: If you think you want to purchase this import release (for 2-3 times the cost of the US version that won't be released (according to Amazon) until mid-August, just to get the two bonus songs that the Japan music distributors always seem to require to force attention against releases elsewhere, don't bother because you're not missing out...they are just more of the same: tossed off pop poop that leave absolutely no lasting impression.Dear Dirty Loops: My suggestion for the next record: less mundane disco and pop...more jazz/funk fusion. Consider returning to your "roots"...the concept that put y'all on the map: exciting re-arrangements and chord manipulations, and more goosebumps-inspiring instrumental performances of otherwise lifeless pop songs that still made it big. In other words...don't strive to write songs when it isn't your forte. There's a compelling aspect of this band that I'm missing when just listening to their tunes without the usual videos: the boys themselves...smiling, energetically attacking their axes and singing (Jonah) their hearts out.

The next big thing!
If you wonder what happened to the music industry today and where are the new Michael Jacksons, Stevie Wonders, Princes or Chaka Khans, but also Dave Weckls, Pat Methenys, Mark Kings, Marcus Millers or Stanley Clarkes - well, here they are. The Dirty Loops are the incarnation of the best moments popular music ever had, but also will have because they are the next big thing! This is how 21st Century pop music should sound - following some currently popular dance styles but enriched by the elements of jazz, funk and soul, and paving the way for the future where brilliant instrumentalism is joined with modern technology and high-quality studio work. I loved their covers, but the originals are even better - they sound fresh, rich, lavishly produced, amazingly arranged and virtuously played. And I've heard them playing live twice - they sound perfect, Jonah sings all his vocalisms exactly as he does on the recordings, Henrik plays the most complex bass lines as if it's a piece of cake, Aaron’s drumming is precise, energetic and skilful, and they never repeat their solos! To summarize - modern power pop at its best! Highly recommend it - buy it for your children as well, to educate them and wash off their ears and heads from the mind control of the programmed pop garbage that has (almost) managed to take over the music industry nowadays.

Dirty Loops has me hooked...
I'm not one who is easily impressed and don't often feel compelled to write reviews. After listening to this album for the first time and then reading the 2-star review left by another buyer I simply had to give these boys the props they deserve. Their YouTube material is indeed good stuff and what led me to buy their CD. But I am in no way disappointed that the CD isn't a carbon copy of the YouTube cover material. While Loopified isn't a perfect CD by any means, it is leaps and bounds above most of the radio-ready garbage that has become more the rule than exception. Loopified effortlessly melds pop, rock and jazz in way that is fresh and unique. As musicians and vocalists, Dirty Loops are phenomenal. Their performances are stellar whether performing original or cover material. I was truly excited after listening to this CD, and I can't remember the last time I said that about a CD. I can promise that this will be in regular rotation for me for months to come. It's making me look forward to summertime driving with the windows down. :) I absolutely recommend purchasing and am very much looking forward to hearing more from them!

A return to serious pop music
This is the first CD in a long time that I feel compelled to buy. These guys are phenomenal musicians. Bass and drums are very active, but it works. Love the chords. Very fresh and original. The Way She Walks is my favorite, and Hit Me is another standout. I also like covers they played prior to making Loopified. The music business is back!
