Must have D&D collection
A must have for any true D&D fan. It has a lot of information in it take really brings me back. Love all the old stuff like notes, adventures, and easter eggs that added. I purchased at a discounted price but definitely with what I paid for it. Looks great and well made. Large encyclopedic type book.

Brilliant and probably too honest for some…
Although not entirely what I expected it is a great book and a reasonable cost. Sure , you can find the scans online. Print them out. Etc. but it’s a historical book much like many others which contains a the originals of the original game. Yes, there are uncomfortable discussions about the early bias noted. Not to state the obvious, but everyone has their flaws and the desire to paint the creators as gods beyond reproach by some one star reviews is absurd. Sure there’s undertones (and maybe some overtones even) of bias, it doesn’t take away from the creation provided. They were fairly stereotypical gamers of the era and just acknowledging that doesn’t bother me… in contrast it makes them much more human. There is discussion of the creators’ conflict and even some of the interpersonal differences… and again it makes it seem even more on point they were a bunch of regular people at the helm of this trying to do something newYes, it’s a lot of scans and reprints, but despite that it’s fun to page through and enjoy the nostalgia.

Perfect gift idea
Got this as a gift for my son. He was thrilled. It is so cool and full of history. It turned out to be a very thoughtful gift. He us a die hard DnD fan. This is a great book for anyone interested in the game, but especially those who are true afficianados.

Beautiful book
I adore this book, and it's really nice to see a full acknowledgment of the hobby's sexist and racist roots. It would have been all too easy to ignore the unfortunate realities of the game's history -- and I'm really happy to see that they haven't done that here. The book is well done, thoughtful, and an excellent addition to any D&D lover's collection.

Amazing content, wrapped in astoundingly poor stewardship
The brunt of the content is great, but the introduction for this book is so incredibly poorly considered it boggles the mind. It's one thing to cushioning the old works that lay the foundation for the very job the person writing it has in terms of how certain ideas have matured over time, as they have; but the way in which it's done is so arrogant, tone-deaf, disrespectful and haughty that it staggers. Moreover in followup comments the author doubles down on his stance, and as such it's hard to award what is otherwise an important historical document, more than one star.

Awesome. Now give us one for every legacy edition.
You could literally play a game with the original rules with this, paper and dice. I used to have the originals when I was a kid. Glad they published this completely intact. It's wonderful. Now give us one on every legacy edition with all the artwork.

New Book in Poor Condition
The content is great for what it is. It contains some of the original documents and as such some are hard to read but its great for any D&D fan. This could have simply been a 4 or 5 star rating. Unfortunately for Amazon I'm a nerd and with a $99 price tag I will complain about the product arriving damaged. The first one the shrink wrap was torn, the book slip was torn and the edge corner of the hardcover was bent.Ok cool I can return the product, so I was going to get a refund and had the option for an exchange. Sure I'd love to have a copy in better condition. This is now the 2nd copy and the cover is in my opinion in worse condition. This isn't like a $20 resale item. Something needs to be done. I have purchased many books on Amazon and it's always the D&D ones that are damaged. It's hard to tell where the disconnect is. Either way with this price I and sure many others would appreciate a slightly better quality control. Perhaps provide a damaged item at a discount? I get it don't judge a book by its cover, but paying this amount in this economy where I spent my hard earned money I feel I might be able to judge a book by its cover this time. Unfortunately Amazon won't allow me to exchange the item again. I get it because t's an expensive $99 item. Seems like double standards here.
