Had the same message "cannot detect ink " mine is the later firm-ware printer and I HATE being dictated to what consumables I have to use . My car came with Pirelli tyres and the car manufacturer may recommend I fit Pirelli's again but it's my choice to fit what I want .. it's plain wrong !So "carefully" pop the chip off the empty Brother ink cartridge and put it on the patern replacement ink cartridge , it with them work fine .Brother may not like this but as all printer manufactures do this and then charge a fortune their for ink , in some cases it's cheaper to buy a new printer each time than buy new brand ink which is ludicrous , it's about as eco friendly as eating Bengal tiger burgers !!

Don't work despite trying to use with printer listed in product description
Purchased for use with Brother DCP-J752DW. Should have worked as this printer is clearly listed in the product description as compatible, but they don't.All not recognised by the printer, just left me unable to print, with ink covered fingers and mega technology rage. Oh for the days of just pulling out the toner and giving it a good shake.Update: You can make them work by swapping the chips from the Brother cartridges for the ones on the replacements, bit of a fiddly thing to have to do but better than binning them.

Compatibility issues
Beware! Latest Brother printers have new firmware which prevents the printer recognising these compatible cartridges - May have to try and change the chip from the original Brother cartridges to the new ones!
