Books That Build Character: A Guide to Teaching Your Child Moral Values Through Stories

A wealth of information, and a lot of fun discovering many wonderful new books from the suggested lists. The chapters giving guidance on how to make selections and how to most effectively introduce them to your children are very good, and the lists of suggestions (with detailed descriptions) are fantastic. I'm dubious about some of the film recommendations given, but the reading lists and discussion are wonderful.

This book has been so helpful to me as I swim through the junk out there for kids to read...This book is a MUST BUY! and keep it near you- as I use it often.

It should not be sell when the book is old like that. The papers' color had turned to brown, even I turn the pages very carefully, it is still easy to broken. Actually, the cover have been broken when I firt a temp to turn the pages. How ever, I can still read it . that is why I rate it 3 stars.

My children are great readers, (I taught them using Hooked on Phonics) but keeping up with their unending demand for new books is a full-time job. This book is a great help, it offers quality books my children love with values and ideas I want to expose them to. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is I have had trouble locating some titles.

Excellent book if you have any interest at all in children’s literature.

This book was not what I expected. I had hoped it would categorize books by the virtue they proposed to increase. Instead, it's ... not that. It seems to be sorted by ... something meaningful to the author. Might be just right for others, but not for me.

I am still slowly working through this book, but have been impressed by the scope of books summarized. The book lists are extremely helpful during my searches for additional literature for my kids. Kilpartrick and Wolfe's summaries have created give a great overview of each book reviewed, which is such a time-saver for a busy mom. Kudos!

The opening chapters of this book were informative and interesting. However, when I got to the book list and began requesting the picture books and young reader fairy tales from my library system, more than 1/2 of them were not available. So I looked them up on Amazon. They were out of print, rare books that were super expensive and difficult or impossible to find. I'll see if that trend continues throughout the other recommendations in the book list. But so far I can't recommend this book.
