Needs anti-caking agent
I ordered this several months ago - great taste, love it for cooking, but it desperately needs something to stop it from caking and clumping together. It cakes HARD, to the point where no amount of shaking and banging will fix it. If you get this, be sure you're going to use it fast because months down the line, you may find yourself with a block of it.

A surprise hit!
Ethiopian spices are completely new to me, and I was excited to get a chance to try this blend. It's hard to describe the flavor, but I'll try.. the garlic is front and center, the ginger gives it some warmth, but the other spices that I'm not familiar with give this a slightly bitter tang, almost earthy? It's an interesting combination, and at first I wasn't sure about it, but the odd thing was it's an addictive taste! I wanted another bite and then another. I'm a fan! This is great as a protein seasoning as well as veggies. Be careful when you open the jar, there's no lid with shaker holes. You'll have to dispense with your fingertips/spoon.My first foray into Ethiopian spices and it was a hit! Now, I want to try more!

Delicious!!!
If you love food with spice and depth, you have to try this. I've had Ethiopian food in restaurants and from pre-packaged meals from my local store, but this was my first time using Ethiopian spices at home. I wasn't sure how to use this, so I googled it. I was pleasantly surprised to find the company has a website (brundo.com) with suggested recipes. They have one for yellow split peas. Since I didn't have all of the spices, I improvised and made it just using this spice. The spice mix (which includes garlic, ginger, fenugreek & caraway) was very aromatic and fresh. It wasn't overly spicy/hot, but I did add some jalapeños to the dish to turn up the heat. It came out amazing! This is also great to easily step up basic chicken dishes in a pinch. This female founded company is based in Oakland, CA and imports the spices from Ethiopia. I'm so happy I found out more information about the company and recipes on their website. The product itself was well packaged in bubble wrap, sealed and filled to the top. I would definitely order from them again. Five stars!

interesting spice blend - mild, not hot
Received a full jar filled to the tip top, sealed and wrapped in bubble wrap. I was excited to try this spice blend and have used it a few times on baked chicken and homemade chicken meatballs and a few veggies. I like spice but not necessarily heat so this is for sure mild and won't make your eyes water. It is without salt which is also good if you are watching your sodium intake. This is a dry spice blend, not a jarred sauce. This is a personal preference but I have come to the conclusion that I do not like cumin. I have tried in chili and stews and indian dishes, it just doesn't work for me. With that being said, my roommate loved everything I made with this spice blend - its got ginger and coriander and cinnamon. Its smoky and spicey, just not salty or hot.I am glad I tried this and actually found something else that I am looking forward to trying - the Gesho Entchet - Authentic Ethiopian Aroma Hops Stems to make some wine... looks interesting!

Five stars but I'm white
I was able to select this product to review for free through the vine program. I love having a huge variety of spice blends and I will try every one they throw my way.I've only ever eaten Ethiopian food once... in a restaurant...when I was a teenager...Keep that in mind for this review. I have no idea what I'm doing. The smell is amazingly earthy and almost savory. A lick test of the powder has an initial hit of just extreme bitterness. The most bitter thing I've ever tasted. I usually have a pretty low heat tolerance but this was not hot at all. Like the most mild heat. That goes away and you have a meaty savory chili vibe.I have not put this on anything yet because I need to research how to use it and I'm really excited to do that. This review will eventually be updated with whatever I figure out how to cook this with. I'm assuming you have to cook this in a certain way to neutralize that bitterness and I have not had time to do that yet but I don't want to leave these folks without a review for their product. Also, if you're another viner, please list your test recipe!

Perfect ethioian spice without the heat!
I love to make Ethiopian food, but my stomach can't handle heat/too spicy, and this spice is perfect. It has the classic spices for making things like doro wat, and spiced vegetables. Really fresh, and flavorful spice blend!
