Very good little starter kit
I wanted to dip my toes into the TT scale, having sold all of my OO sets and only model US trains in N gauge. I was also interested in the app control. The model is detailed and easy to set up. The app functionality is great. You can drive and play sounds. The sound is pretty good considering the size of the speaker.I got this on the Black Friday sale and don’t think I would have been as impressed at full price. We have to wait to see if Hornby TT takes off or if they overprice it so that people refuse to buy it

Hour to setup and working
Got this up and running after a few failed attempts, but all in under one hour.It works well, runs well, the sounds are good and a bit of fun.At first, attaching the tracks was a bit fiddly. Coupling and decoupling the carriages seems the work of luck rather than skill. Getting the train and carriages on the track without the tool is difficult..The only shame is that lights on the carriages are always on and can't be turned off without additional decoders. The software needed to run the trains is a bit cumbersome, and I can't imagine running more than 1 train at a time from it, but it's adaptable to change acceleration and deceleration speeds to make it realistic.

Railroad Tycoon in a Dining Room
A raillway on your table top - TT120. This is a manageable scale, being smaller than OO and larger and less fiddly than the tiny N Guage. You can achieve a well-featured layout on a 4' x 3' board. Modelling officiandos will appreciate that this is a true scale, and absolutely proprtionately correct. This is the digital version of the set, and the locomotive is fitted with a chip that operates the train features and a speaker for a wide range of train and station sounds. Rather than a traditional transformer and control knob, these digital kits use Bluetooth and an app to control the trains. I use my iPad as my train contoller and am free to walk around my layout. The actual models are exquisitely detailed, with pipework, boiler rivets, connecting rods, air pipes, etc., and are definitiely not toys - not children's toys anway. There is a good range of trains and accessories in this scale, so you can grow your railway from dining to banquetting table with ease.Fantastic

It's a model not a toy
I bought this train set for myself when it was on offer. It's been over 20 years since I bought anything from Hornby and the market has changed a lot.The TT:120 models are a lot smaller than the OO train sets. The models are more detailed than I'm used to; also more expensive. If you want a train to set up on the floor and entertain the children get an OO or Lego set.My next purchase will be a small board that's just larger than my table so I can semi-permanently fix a small layout to it; and put it on the table when I want to see a train run around a track. Also hear it because this train comes with a sound chip, controlled from a phone or tablet.Recommended if you have the money and patience to get in to the hobby but check you're happy with cost of extra track; extra trains; scale buildings; etc before committing.

Fiddly
My first and last foray into TT120, the detail is lost, the track is troublesome joining together, altogether really disappointed.
