Is this something a person in an assisted living could do? Are the pieces tiny? Also, could they be mounted on cardboard?

The pieces are very very tiny. Must be placed on the sticky canvas one at a time with tweezers. Requires a very steady hand and a lot of patience. One of the 6 canvases can take up to 10-12 hours. Must be very organized and have lots of space for working. NO FANS. It will blow the dots away and dry out the sticky canvas.
