Product Description A big-budget version of the Robin Hood myth which begins when Robin (Kevin Costner) returns from the Crusades, accompanied by a Moorish companion, to find his father dead, having been accused of devil worship. Vowing revenge, Robin soon finds himself with a price on his head and joins the oppressed peasantry in battle with the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). .co.uk Review Kevin Costner's lousy English accent is a small obstacle in this often exciting version of the Robin Hood fable. That aside, it's refreshing to have a preface to the old story in which we meet the robber hero of Sherwood Forest as a soldier in King Richard's Crusades, coming home to find his people under siege from the cruelties of the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). After Robin and his community of outcasts and fighters take to the trees, director Kevin Reynolds (Fandango, 187) is on more familiar narrative ground, and he goes for the gusto with lots of original action (Robin shoots two arrows simultaneously from his bow in two directions). Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, as Marion, makes a convincing damsel in distress and Morgan Freeman brings dignity to his role as Robin's Moor friend. Alan Rickman, however, gets the most attention for his scene-chewing role as the rotten sheriff, an almost campy performance that is highly entertaining but perhaps a little out of sorts with the rest of the film. --Tom Keogh

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - 2022 Arrow Blu-ray edition
One I’ve owned on and off over the years but which I now have again in this new presentation with a new 4K based restoration featuring the theatrical and extended versions of the film.Simultaneously a bit dated, but still huge fun thanks to the excellent cast, it again tells the story of Robin Hood and his band of merry men, fighting against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham to protect the Kingdom from villainy.Films looks truly fantastic again (it’s always great to be able to compare the new picture quality against old trailer footage etc so you can really see how much better it is) and it also sounds great.Extras wise, several hours of material are included. There are two enjoyable and worthwhile commentaries (which play on the extended version), which seem to be from the early 2000’s and (probably) an old tenth anniversary historical release, a new 67 minute making of documentary (no main actors appear nor director Kevin Reynolds, but the writing/producing team), plus an archive 1991 promo event hosted by a pre-Bond Pierce Brosnan, archival cast interviews, trailers, photo galleries, the Bryan Adams music video, and in this edition an illustrated booklet with essays etc.A good enough release, brought down only slightly by the fact most of the extras are pre-existing ones.

All action!! Great!
Loved this in the early 1990s. Was reminded of it when playing a Bryan Adams CD in the car. Really enjoyed watching the film 30 years on! Very good!
