When you repot your plant in these pots, do you also put soil in the reservoir?

Accepted Answer

You do not put soil in the reservoir. The reservoir can be used in one of two ways 
1: For bottom watering; place the accompanying cotton wicking cord into the reservoir and one end in the soil. It will wick up the water into the soil to self water the plant.

2: Without the wick; to  capture the water
for plants that like their soil on the dry side
Some plants require dry soil before is watered therefore you would not use the wicking cord(for example succulents

These are great pots and keep the roots from sitting in water which leads to root rot.

Takes few minutes to learn the individual watering needs of your plants. I always check out the experts Youtube and internet has a wealth of information. 
 You made a good choice with these pots!

Does the spout come off?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can remove it when you want to do so.  It snaps in place.

First-time plant mom here, is molding an issue with these at all?

I have not had any issue with mold since purchasing these pots.

Can I just move my existing plants into the pot on top of the cotton rope, or do I need to loosen the root system to embed the rope in the soil?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how healthy your plants are and if they need to be repotted. The pots can be used different ways according the specific need of each type of plant you have.

*You can just pop your existing pot, if it has drainage holes, and plant Happy, and not root bound,  and water from the top, using the saucer below to catch overflow, and not use the cotton string.
 
*I used the opportunity with the new pots to repot my plants with new or enriched soil.

*I have used the pots in two different ways regarding the cotton string and have learned a couple of important lessons..

Use 1:  for plants that need to completely dry out before watering, I do not use the string and use the removable bottom tray to catch water then pour out any remaining water after It has had a chance to drain. Those type plants don’t like “wet feet” And could lead to root rot.

Use 2: For plants that need to stay moist or self watered.. these I use the string in them. If you want the water to seep out to the root ball level,  when transplanting,m:Here is how I do it… I keep wick bottom of the down to reach the water, and lay other end of wick along the inside edge when filling with dirt, and lay the wick across the pot, at root level .  Then plant as usual.  
PLEASE NOTE: I made the mistake of just filling reservoir with water and expecting the plant will get the perfect amount of water. Each variety of plants have specific needs.. I learned to pay attention and not let soil get too wet and rot the roots. This was user error, nothing bad about the pots.  I make sure to learn when to water, and how much is needed, no matter what pot is needed.  I know this is long, I love the pots, and my plants are 😃 happy!
