WOW
Surfs up is vulgar, disgusting, and not suitable for children in all the best ways. Take your children to church after watching! It's important for them to hear the scripture not this garbage ,the idea of a surfing penguin is just too much. Do not subject your child to such smut, because they will laugh and enjoy themselves and that's bad! Any time your child isn't repenting for a decision that you and your significant other decided to make is horrible. How this movie is not banned is beyond me. My 7 year old giggled while watching, which is forbidden in our household! This movie is worse than pornography and I don't wish it on my worst enemy!... Just kidding Surfs Up is Dope, I'd like to hang with chicken joe! Wrote this as a giggle to make fun of christian moms.

Beautiful, Thoughtful movie. Gorgeous in 3-D
This was more thoughtful and appealing than I ever expected. And the colors and animation were gorgeous, especially in 3-D. TV Eyes 3-D Glasses: Watch any movie in 3-D Everything was more vivid and impressive. Penguins on a tropical island should have been ridiculous, but it wasn't. It was a very lovable, heartwarming story. The settings and background were very lush and detailed and the ocean scenes, sunsets and waves were all rendered fantastically well. There's one scene at the end where the young penguin finally gets to go "in the tube" that mystical experience that all surfers long for where you are actually inside the wave, with the water rising up as a wall beside you and arching over your head, completely encasing you in an enchanting microcosm of water and light. And this looked great in 3-D! It really enhanced it. I saw the movie first in 3-D then went back and watched it regular to compare. There was no comparison, the scene and the visuals are much more powerful in 3-D. At least to me.This is really a coming of age story. The usual "young man finding his own path and strength" type movie. It's done so well you don't even notice they're penguins half the time. But there's also loads of laughs. Chicken Joe is worth seeing this movie for all by himself. He's your typical, mellow, surfer dude. Even down to the slouch and the language. But unlike most TV "dudes" he's not at all irritating. In fact, he's wonderfully funny. He's so calm and unruffled that he even takes being kidnapped by cannibals in stride. (And rememeber, he "tastes like chicken") But he's a great friend, and his adventures alone in the jungle are hysterical. The one group of people who also contribute greatly to this movie, are one's you never see, the camera crew. They follow Cody and Chicken Joe around all over the place "filming" for posterity. And they come in for their own portion of abuse in the antics they are observing. Even the cameraman is not immune to cannibals. And a lot of their "off camera" comments are totally funny. This was a good hearted, thoughtful, feel good movie, mixed in with lots of pratfalls, goofy takes and unlikely adventures that keep it fun for the kids and the young at heart. The scenery is beautiful, the characters are diverse (they're not all penguins) and the surf culture background is well researched, even down to giving some of the penguins Hawaiian tattoos. It's those kind of details that make it great. Definitely worth a watch. (Warning! You may never get your younger kids to STOP watching it.) And definitely see it in 3-D, it adds a lot. This is not just another Happy Feet (another great movie that you should also see in 3-D, very cool.) The two movies are far apart in tone, but should definitely sit side by side on your shelf. Great fun!

Brand new- excellent quality
Brand new disc. Doesn’t skip or buffer. It’s one of my 4 years olds favorite movies and one that I like watching too. This is a great animated movie that I’ll watch again and again. It’s a feel good movie that kids enjoy with enough humor sprinkled in that adults will like it too. Can’t recommend enough!!

Kids' movie made by surfer dudes.
This is the surfer's equivalent of Cars. A kids' movie which appears to be made by dyed in the wool surf enthusiasts. The film follows the adventures of an ambitious young penguin who is talent spotted to compete in a prestigious competition on an exotic island. Shot in a 'mockumentary' style it may be tough going for younger children. Certainly my 4 year-old's attention quickly wandered although my 8 year-old has since revisited the film and appeared to enjoy it.The hero penguin Cody is following the footsteps of his childhood hero Big Z and the competition is a memorial to Z who apparently died competing on this shore. He is up against established champ and all round bad guy 'Tank' Evans, a penguin who likes to surf dirty and is obsessed by the trophy. He befriends a stoner chicken and a cute penguin lifeguard and proceeds to humiliate himself in the first stage of the competition. Cody takes himself off into the jungle to reflect on his woes and befriends a mysterious hermit-like penguin who eventually teaches him how to surf. This penguin turns out to be Big Z who realised he was losing his edge and faked his death so that he could go out on a high. Of course he brings Cody up to a standard where he can compete against Tank and Cody returns to the competition although the outcome isn't quite what you'd expect. The surfing scenes are lovingly shot and look pretty impressive. The film takes a pop at agents and commercialism and many of the jokes fly way above a child's head. The film is well voiced and animated and there is an engaging storyline. For a teenager or an adult, the documentary style adds to the humour. For a child it slows down the action and makes the film more difficult to understand. I liked it but if you're looking to entertain very young children then look elsewhere.

Very underrated animated film, one of the funniest movies
Very underrated animated film, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen & whilst the idea of a Penguin surfing may seem a bit ridiculous & childish, well this movie doesn't half pull it off well. It is made in sort of a mockumentary style, similar to Modern Family or the Office. Great movie for adults & kids, with a positive uplifting story & lots of funny bits in between.

Not a bad film! The HD Blue-ray experience makes the viewing more pleasurable although the game is much more entertaining. It is always to check the Blue-ray prices on Amazon as the prices are more competitive. Good buy overall!
