Very good item and good quality.
This is the second Petsafe that we have had in the past 6 years. They are quite pricey to buy, but I do feel that they are worth the money. I have 2 cats who use their cat flat extremely regularly. The instructions for use are very clear and it's good that there are several functions which allow your animal to come and go as you need them to. We have our cat flap permanently plugged into the mains electricity - i am not sure whether there is battery option and to be honest I wouldn't like to risk using a battery option, just in case it ran out and my cats were left outside cold and hungry! The quality is very good, although I have to clean mine quite often otherwise the grit an mud stop the flap from closing properly. It was easy to fit into the door.

Clear and helpful instructions.
Delivered 5pm. Clear and helpful instructions. Inspected and programmed by the furry animal. His servants had it installed by 6.30pm. Easy installation, if a bit fiddly in places (an extra pair of hands is useful). It did help that this was a replacement for a catflap we put in 12 years ago, and there was the right-sized cut-out already in the door.

Good, but careful who you buy from.
Before I review the cat flap, I will mention to be careful when you buy it. I didn't notice when I ordered, but mine was sold by a third party seller and it came with an EU 2-pin power supply. By chance I had a UK-EU adapter plug so I was still able to use it, but a bit annoying anway, particularly as I had it half installed by the time I noticed. I assume stock direct from Amazon will be UK spec. The cat flap is good though, and has a larger tunnel than the one it replaced which our chubby cat will appreciate. It was easy to program the cat's chip - set it to learn mode with cat outside then shake a bag of Dreamies and she immediately stuck her head in the flap. The other controls are bit fiddly though with various combinations of just 2 buttons to set the modes and only beeps for feedback. Even a single digit display would have helped. That said, once you set it up you probably won't need to touch it again.I wanted it for the auto night lock feature. Too many times I have forgotten to check the manual flap was locked at night, and our cat tends to bring us "presents" if she is alowed out after dark, so prefer to keep her in. The feature seems to work as advertised.Install is easy if replacing an existing flap, but slighty more complicated than some due to the need to run a wire for the power supply, but at least you dont need to keep replacing batteries. I knew I had socket close enough to the door, but check before you buy. The wire is on the adapter is about 2m long and remember you need enough slack to open the door - ours is in an out-opening conservatory door, so it needs a bit of slack.Build quality is standard cat flap, not terrible, but nothing special despite the fairly premium price, so only buy for the advanced features. Go for a cheaper model if you just want chip entry control.

Effective mains operated microchip cat door
We have used a pet porte for our cat since we had her 15 years ago. This allows her in and out of house but prevents other cats coming in and stealing food etc. It works very well but this was third version as they do wear out over time. Previously it has been the sensor that has stopped working ie the cat has microchip but the door will not recognise it and therefore cannot get in.I like the control features that allow different settings including lock to keep cat in (vet mode) though the pattern of button presses is not intuitive so i do need to refer to manual each time if i want to change setting. Registering cat is easy though of course cat disapproves of being man handled near sensor. My father did original cutting in wooden back door 15 years ago and new model still fits. He said it was easy and templates are included. Once wood is cut the actual insertion and set up is relatively quick (45 mins inc registering microchip on cat).It isnt cheap at initial outlay but as it seems to last between 5-10 years overall good value. We did not want collar operated one.I think the plastic sensor porch which sticks out about 10 cm from back door is quite vulnerable and could get damaged if in area with lot of foot fall. It is not that sturdy and held to main frame with plastic mushroom clips. We have not had problems but it is in an area where not that many people or things like bins or trolleys are being pushed passed.
