Onkyo CN7050 Networked CD Player (Silver)

I am very happy with this CD & Network player. The sound from both CDs and files on USB drives is very good indeed. I mostly play FLAC or WAV files but even MP3 files sound ok, especially the high bit-rate ones. I have not yet tried the network connection for playing either local files or internet radio.

The sound produced by this Network CD player is very pleasing, detailed and full. This applies equally to CDs and files (.flac etc.) played via either of the two USB inputs. I have a 1Tb Toshiba external hard drive connected to the front USB input with the capability to store many, many .flac files, and this works well. The unit is quite well built, the controls are well laid out and the remote is easy to use. I would have wished for a second line of information on the display panel, and CD Text would have been nice too. I haven't used the internet tuner yet as I bought it mainly for playing CDs and high res gapless .flac files, but, after reading another review on Amazon, I believe that an Onkyo wi-fi dongle can be used for internet connectivity, which I will consider purchasing. A couple of minor niggles, the unit does make a (just) noticeable hum when switched on, this is audible in an otherwise silent environment and can't be heard when music is playing. The unit also produces a mechanical click at the start of a CD or when first playing a folder of files, thankfully this isn't repeated at the start of each individual track. Overall this has been a good replacement for my 10 year old Marantz CD player that became unserviceable, and is good value for money.Update, November 2015:I had been considering buying an ONKYO UWF-1 USB internet dongle, this works when used in the front USB socket. However I was put off by the price being charged by Amazon UK and other retailers (£25-£30). To my surprise I chanced upon the fact that Amazon USA were selling the item for around £15, and postage to the UK was in the region of £3, a considerable saving. The UWF-1 arrived, was installed and is working well with the CN7050!Currently Onkyo have a headphone promotion that is running until the end of 2015. If you purchase a C-N7050 you can claim a set of high quality Onkyo headphones. A word of caution, the application has to be posted to Onkyo in Germany and they don't seem too organised in terms of acknowledging receipt of applications, and dispatching headphones. Emails are answered (eventually) but I have now been waiting over six weeks for the headphones promised to arrive!Update 8th September...Still waiting for my headphones, minimal response from ONKYO to emails. Have now submitted a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority about the Headphone Promotion.Further update: I contacted my online seller who immediately got in touch with ONKYO UK. From here on it was plain sailing, and after submitting proofs of purchase again, I received the promised headphones! Full marks to ONKYO UK, black mark to ONKYO Germany.

Frontale dall'aspetto minimale con pochi controlli diretti: 6 pulsanti principali ed un encoder per selezione sorgente e play/stop, 3 (tre!) pulsanti per le stazioni radio internet preferite, un pulsante per visualizzare varie informazioni sul disco/brano/stazione internet e -infine- il pulsante di apertura caddy per i cd. A prima vista è chiaro che per accedere alle molte funzioni dell'apparecchio bisogna fare ricorso al telecomando, il cui aspetto sovradimensionato fa sorgere le prime perplessità: spropositatamente grande da renderlo poco maneggevole, con ampi spazi vuoti che potrebbero ospitare un numero consistente di pulsanti ad accesso diretto che eviterebbero di passare per i menu. La configurazione iniziale per l'utilizzo in rete non è complicata, una volta fatta la registrazione al server vTuner si ha accesso al database delle stazioni internet (oltre 38000 radio), i passaggi sono descritti in modo chiaro nel manuale. Si possono salvare le stazioni radio preferite sia nel proprio profilo vTuner (organizzandole secondo categorie di propria scelta) che in un elenco interno al player, oltre ai tre tasti di accesso rapido di cui sopra. Ora, chiunque abbia mai usato o anche solo visto un sintonizzatore sa che i tasti per la memoria delle stazioni radio non sono mai abbastanza, eppure i progettisti Onkyo hanno pensato che tre fosse un numero sufficiente. 38600 stazioni radio e ben tre pulsanti di preselezione, niente male.Oltretutto disposti ad un lato del rettangolo di plastica scura che ospita il display, con un ampio spazio che potrebbe ospitare facilmente 10 pulsanti per le stazioni radio e/o il richiamo diretto delle tracce CD. Parliamo del display: ha una sola riga informativa per cui non è possibile visualizzare allo stesso tempo il nome della traccia ed il tempo di esecuzione, un bel passo indietro rispetto ai lettori da tavolo del passato. Lo scroll della riga di testo inizia dopo vari secondi il che rende piuttosto seccante la ricerca di un determinato file, specie se i titoli contengono molti caratteri.La mappa caratteri non è implementata in modo completo (o corretto) quindi può succedere che un banale punto od un carattere accentato latino vengano rappresentati con un simbolo grafico. Il lettore riproduce agevolmente file audio nei più diffusi formati Lossy e Lossless ivi compresi FLAC, ALAC e WAV, il che è cosa gradita; ma ha un *serio* problema con i brani in sequenza gapless, ovvero le tracce audio senza soluzione di continuità (Dark Side Of The Moon, per esempio), che ama interrompere con un secco -clic- meccanico se il bitrate tra due brani successivi differisce in modo significativo (non è dato sapere in quanto consista la differenza) o se la durata è inferiore a X secondi. E quel -clic- malefico che accompagna ogni passaggio da una sorgente all'altra, ogni salto di traccia, in definitiva ogni operazione correlata all'ascolto. E' possibile che i progettisti Onkyo non abbiano trovato di meglio che utilizzare un relé elettromeccanico per la commutazione delle uscite? O si tratta di sadismo verso l'utilizzatore che acquista il C-N7050 con l'intenzione di ascoltare della buona musica? Perchè, bizzarrie a parte, questo player è in grado di intrattenere l'ascoltatore con un suono gradevole, relazionandosi educatamente con una molteplicità di fonti (cd, iPod, pendrive usb, radio internet, server locale). Quindi, per godersi appieno la propria musica preferita manca solo un firmware aggiornato che spazzi via le idiosincrasie operative, rendendo più utilizzabile l'apparecchio.P.S.: ho volutamente messo in risalto gli aspetti negativi perchè in rete non si trovano recensioni complete, considerate questo report come una integrazione alla recensione su WhatHiFi.

Este reproductor es una buena opción, lo lee todo, y además puedes escuchar la radio por internet.Yo lo he comprado hace unos días, y la verdad, estoy contento, puedo escuchar todos los CDen cualquier formato, y lleva dos puertos USB uno delantero y otro trasero, lo recomiendo al 100x100

Ich war auf der Suche nach einem einfachen und kompakten CD-Player, der auch eine Netzwerk-Funktion unterstützt.Der Onkyo vereint alles was ich benötige:- guter CD-Player- gute Netzwerk Funktionalität- einfache Bedienung via Fernbedienung oder App auf iPhone oder iPad- tolles Netzwerk Radio- solider Aufbau und schöne, übersichtliche Gestaltung.Der Tip für den Onkyo kam von meinem Freund, der ihn auch schon im Einsatz hatte.Habe ein paar HiRes Files auf meinem NAS, die ich endlich mal auf meiner guten Anlage (Audionet mit Sonus Faber) hören wollte.Ich wollte aber keine zig 1.000,- € ausgeben und suchte eine einfache Möglichkeit mich dem Thema Netzwerkplayer anzunähern.Der Onkyo bietet alles das und dazu ist er preislich hoch attraktiv!Das I-Net Radio hatte ich so gar nicht auf meiner Liste, ist aber ein tolle Sache!Es läuft nun fast täglich und die Qualität ist wirklich klasse.Ich habe das Gerät ende Sept. 2016 bei Amazon erworben und seit dem läuft es regelmäßig und macht mir viel Freude!Volle Empfehlung! *****

Assure le job pour les CD audio, les fichiers FLAC et DSD. Réhausse la qualité des fichiers AAC.Quelques défauts cependant : le branchement via DLNA chaotique (serveur & appli), pas de prise en charge de DD via USB (uniquement du flash) et notice ridicule qui ne sert à rien...À voir sur le temps...
