A Must Read
I swear that I think every Caroline Mitchell book is my favorite, but this one is at the very top! I NEVER expected the plot twist and I'm still gobsmacked! I literally couldn't put this book down and read it in 2 days. Just read it! I promise you'll love it. Caroline Mitchell is the master!

So many characters and stories a little hard to keep up with it, but very interesting.
I don't think my reading friends would like it. I am so sorry it is such a dark story. I prefer happier books, but I certainty could not figure out the ending until I got there, a good thing about this book.

Triggering!
This book is triggering to anyone who has ever lost a baby or child regardless of circumstances. There is also sexual and physical abuse implied, which is rather triggering. Could be a good book if it doesn't trigger you. Had I known I would have passed.

Book
Wow that sweet thrill of being utterly consumed by a book! This one took its time to draw me in, but once it had me, I was enthralled. The masterful storytelling expertly wove a web of suspense that left me breathless and on edge until the very last page. It's been ages since a thriller has had me so thoroughly spellbound. The writing transported me to the eerie island, making my heart race and my skin crawl - in the best way possible! I thought I had it all figured out, but that ending?! Mind. Blown. I didn't see it coming, and the surprise was oh-so-satisfying. Now, I'm itching to revisit the story, knowing what I know now, and uncover even more of its hidden gems. This book, oh this book, has left me in awe and has me craving more of its kind. It's a true masterpiece of psychological suspense!

Great Book
I love Caroline Mitchell’s books. There’s a certain twist to them that we as readers don’t expect. She slowly unravels the mystery bit by bit, keeping you glued to the book. When the story is finished, & we know what really happened on that island, the truth is exposed. That is when we find out who the wayward people that lived in that house really were!

A Fun and Twisty Thriller
4 starsThis is a fun, twisty, fast-paced thriller that'll leave readers steering clear of small towns, especially small island towns, for the foreseeable future.Anyone who has been to Ireland knows the magical draw of the misty coastal towns (and puffins!), and we have all felt the otherworldliness that makes us wonder if the Ancient Mariner is going to hobble out of a cave and start telling his stories, but Selkie Island just does not fit this mold in any of the positive ways.Claire and Daniel have had a tough marriage since Claire makes what she believes is a fatal error. This error causes Claire to take drastic measures to punish herself, and this all creates - as one might imagine - terrible strife for both characters. Daniel decides to deal with this by pulling a geographic; these two, and Kitty, their young daughter, will head off to his home island for a change of scenery and to meet some additional family obligations. This is already a tough situation, but it's made instantly worse by the many secrets Daniel, his family, and the entire island community seem to be hiding. As is the case in most thrillers, readers really need to suspend disbelief to make it through this read, but if that's your jam, you'll enjoy this one. The pacing is great, and there are so many twists. An added bonus? This author leaves no stone unturned at the end. All of the questions get answered, and not just in a sentence or two.I enjoyed this and will be looking to read more from this author.

Enjoyable Read
I did not see the twist coming at all! Did not expect it at all. I loved the location and the descriptions of the island. More books set in Ireland please.

A Very Engaging Read
The author draws on what we now know to be genuine Irish history and horror for unwed mothers and babies, but with ample twists. I had to track names and characters as this multiple-voice and time story can be confusing at first, but so worth untangling. Nothing short of brilliant - highly recommend.

Totally absorbing
Such A good story. Very different from the authors other books, but absolutely gripping. I can't recommend her books enough, every one is a winner.

When youre sat in a warm room and its dark outside and raining, this is the book to read :)
I knew this author was capable of taking her books up a level or two in depth and description creating a real sense of being right down in that story but having more of an atmosphere to indulge in and Caroline Mitchell sure has done it with this book. Ive enjoyed all her other books, enjoying the storylines and the build up and crazy panic of the drama and the endings, but it feels like there is so much more the author is capable of and this book proves that (in my opinion). It isnt a slow start, it is however the author setting the atmosphere to enhance the feel of the characters and the journey the book takes you on. Its getting your imagination to put the authors words into your own thoughts and pictures, to make it gripping, believable and enjoyable. As in life you may feel you know someone or their life story but do you really? Do you listen to understand them or to judge from only what you have heard second hand. This book takes you through a wave of emotions as it leads you to a false sense of security and then there are twists and turns like a maze not knowing what will happen, what did happen and who exactly are these people that are on that island. Ive just finished this book and already my mind is thinking hmm is there going to be a part 2 as it is possible!

Good read
I've read a few of Caroline Mitchell books but I wasn't sure about this one when I started it. However the twist at the end was great and I didn't see it coming! Definitely glad I continued with this book.
