Kept my little entertained for a fair while, got super excited then turned into alittle hulk great for kids

Agree with other reviewers. Lots of fun and excitement. But the glass bottle (to hold the 'diamond') is a mistake. It can only be retrieved in one piece, if instead of excavation the whole piece is immersed in warm water to disitegrade, which is not a point of this kit.

Son very happy, around two hours of play. Waiting to grow the crystals. Overall happy when price was discounted

I’m a beginner to rock and gem collecting, and this kit has been a learning curve. Lots of these beginner friendly kits do not give you completely natural, authentic gems. They give you a different rock or glass with similar features to the natural version to represent the natural version. So if you’re expecting 100% natural gems then you will be disappointed and I wouldn’t spend your money on this. But if you’re looking for an activity to do with small children who are too young to really care if it’s fake or not, then this is a great kit. I will say, it’s marketed as 3+ but I’d recommend it to children 8+ because realistically, if you give a child a toy/activity, you expect them to be able to play with it. But I don’t see how a child could get through the mud stone and especially the geodes. The excavation stone was a great activity and took me (a grown adult) around 60-90 minutes to fully break through it. The geodes were great fun to break open although the smaller one sparked a few times so be mindful with small children, however I do love how the geodes look inside. I have also got the crystal growing set on the go and will update my review once they’re finished!
