A fun Lebanese comedy and a slice of normal life
At the risk of being one of those Westerners who must connect everything to their own culture, this movie kind of reminded me of a Lebanese Steel Magnolias because it is set in a ladies’ hair salon. It’s completely it’s own movie, however. This is one of the relatively rare Arab movies which is both well made and not a tragedy. It’s just a really fun watch and it’s nice to see a good, popular movie about normal Muslim and Christian women working together and living their lives just as people do anywhere else. These are ladies I feel like I knew when I lived in the region but whom I don’t often see represented onscreen. I definitely recommend renting it although I wouldn’t necessarily watch it over and over again.

GREAT MOVIE! Nadine is hot!
So I watched this movie online. Absolutely loved it. Figured I'd buy it and own it considering Nadine Labaki is very attractive. Also, thought I'd support the Arabic cinema. The directing and filming quality was very impressive for an Arabic movie. Story plot was very interesting and portrays the true reality of some situations in the Arab world. Kind of tired and bored of the typical Arabic plots: good guy, bad guy, girl somehow is involved in the story. He has to rescue you her. bla bla bla. Anyway, I let a friend borrow it last year and I haven't seen it since. lol. So, that tells you how good of a movie it is.Oh and in case your wondering I'm of Palestinian decent and my mom was born in Lebanon. I've vacationed there numerous times. Hence why I know this equates to the reality there.

A very enjoyment film !
I enjoyed watching this film when it was released and for some reason had it on my mind, although I could remember the title. A quick search of movie data base refreshed my memory and I was able to purchase a DVD through amazon. It was even better on DVD. After each viewing, I pick up more innuendoes and and subtleties which had been missed. It is a very heart warming story about the lives of others and particularly inspiring in that it is about ordinary people in Lebanon trying to get on with their lives despite the obstacles of living with daily power outages, caring for relatives, and living in a multicultural society. I thought it was a great movie and recommend it to all. I enjoyed several stories all coming together, lots of drama, comedy, and great character acting. Well Done !

Beautiful little story about love it its sweetest
I have watched this twice and well likely see a few more times as it is a romantic vignette that is universal, yet so personal and specific to each character.

A movie about sisterhood and the inevitable truths we all must face...
I really enjoyed this movie. What beautiful people to watch and listen to. I've never been a fan of subtitles, but with this movie it is a breeze. The context is easy to dive into and was very relatable. The ability of the director and writer to make the viewer aware of the many issues that both, women & men in other countries face was brought across in a very gentle, honest way. The way LOVE supports all of the stories shown in the film was beautiful, soul connecting and human.

It is the best movie made by a woman about women I know
It is the best movie made by a woman about women I know. Daily routines, simple relations, familiar conflicts - all seem much too close to reality. Yet, the movie is magical. It is like a wise, patient friend that understands and stays with you no matter what. Women's universe through the prism of a beauty salon. Where else could you see yourself in a mirror? You will get the meaning of Caramel during opening titles.

Poignant and Honest Depiction of the hearts and tribulations of Women
I loved this film; the simplicity of its setting contrasted with the complexities and realities of real life issues women deal within their cultures. Heart-warming and realistic. Acting was so natural and adept, it was easy to feel as though you knew each of them. Great 5 stars.

Movie is not in English but does have subtitles. It was slow enough to follow along. The movie itself is nice could have had stronger points and better plot but I'm glad i got to see something different. My favorite part of movie is probably the last scene because it ties it all together. It was still recommendable aside the long wait to get to the point.

A Beiruti woman's life
Not the usual war / terrorism Lebanon set film, but a look at the lives of a group of women in a Beirut beauty salon. As director and lead Nadine Labaki writes at the end, this is 'to my Lebanon' not the one usually portrayed as a perpetual war zone. Funny and moving.
