TRILOGY is a triple-CD set recorded live around the world with his spectacularly virtuosic trio featuring bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade, both star leaders in their own right (and previously the rhythmic backbone in Corea's Five Peace Band). a marvel of live recorded sound, particularly for having been captured in multiple stops on the road, Trilogy sees the trio reinvent classic Corea compositions (such as 'Spain'), as well as previously unreleased originals ('Piano Sonata: The Moon').

Outstanding Corea-led group
Four captivating uptempo tunes: 1) You're My Everything, 2)Alice in Wonderland, 3) This is New and 4) Spain. The last includes enthusiastic, uplifting audience participation.Brian Blade is an underrated bopdrummer who should be a household name and Christian McBride's speed on bass is second to none. McBride shows why he's the man of all jazz upright bass players with his incredible virtuosity and, of course, Corea is simply Corea. An incredible trio with flute and guitar accompaniment. I enjoyed the flutists's solo on the ballad standard, "My Foolish Heart". He breathes into the instrument like a Ben Webster sax ballad . You don't hear that level of inflection on flute very often. I can't stop playing these CD's. This group is right up there with the best piano-led groups I've heard and I've heard a ton of them.

Return policy is better
Brought this CD set to find out Disc #2 was defected. Went to Amazon and started the return process. It was easy and very fast. Amazon got their return in 2 days and I got my new CD set in 3 days. Process was so much easy than I remember before. Now the CD set excellent music from three great pioneer in jazz. It is very straight forward jazz. All acoustic and very improvised. Play any one of the disc in a quite atmosphere and just enjoy

Best live jazz trio recording ever
This is the most amazing jazz trio recording I own. Every time I put it on I'm totally drawn into it. The playing is absolutely amazing - these guys are totally on the same wavelength and its obvious by the tightness and flow of the music. Chick sounds better than ever and Brian Blade has amazing feel and dynamics as a drummer. The recording quality is the best I've ever heard for a live ensemble: The clarity and dynamics are phenomenal. This is a must buy for any piano jazz fan.

Interesting but disappointing
Don't you just hate it when you read all the five star reviews that say it doesn't get any better, and it doesn't live up to the billing? These are three great musicians but mostly don't play as a unit. Chick does a lot of his ethereal and classical thing while McBride is a bop/soul player and sounds like a fish out of water. Blade sounds like he's trying to be Tony Williams. Sometimes it works, mostly not.Remember the Akoustic band in the late '80s with Patitucci and Weckl? That band played like a well rehearsed unit. They were exciting and coherent. This is good, but it should be better. Speaking of the Akoustic band, those recordings were immediate - in your face exciting. There's too much hall in these live recordings. It's like they're more interested in the venue than the music.I would have given four stars if it wasn't for Chick's wife singing "Some Day My Prince Will Come". What was he thinking? It's horrible. It sounds like she's trying out for the cast in Annie. I know you're getting old Chick, we all are, but seriously? You couldn't end this trilogy with something that doesn't make me cringe?

Marvelous contribution from one of jazz's all time greats!!!
When I heard Corea's Further Explorations with Eddie Gomez and the late Paul Motian I thought that was as good as the Jazz trio could be. I gave it as a gift to all my friends who like piano jazz as well. This is just as good, and I guess I will have to start giving it to friends as well. This cd is just awesome. I hope they release more tracks from the concerts. Christian McBride is fantastic, Blades is great, and as for Corea what else can one possibly say about this wonderful pianist? I have loved his music for more than 40 years going back to the original Return to Forever.

The very highest quality modern Jazz
Although I am not at all familiar with the drummer, I would say that I have been listening to Chick Corea since he shot to fame with Miles and have been 'a bit of a fan' of Christian McBride since encountering him on a weekly Programme Bob Holness used to host on BBC 'World Service' on Saturday Afternoons where I was. He was pretty much in the habit of playing a track by Christian McBride pretty much every week an was always eagerly anticipated, so the two 'Trilogy' offerings were eagerly snapped up. Sadly, with Chick Core's recent 'passing' there aren't going to be any opportunities to hear them live again, so the two sets of live recordings have come along at the right time. Rest assured that Brian occupies the drum stool in very adequate style in such elevated company. Buy it!

Superior Jazz
This is seriously great music. Three guys who know exactly what they are doing. As a bit of a drummer myself, I can say I think Brian Blade is wonderful. His roots, I suspect, are Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, not to mention Philly Joe Jones and Max Roach. Beautiful playing. A fabulous set of discs. Did I mention Chick Corea and Christian McBride? Chick is out of Bud Powell and Bill Evans, pure melodic improvisation. Christian is straight out of Ray Brown plus some Scott LaFaro technique, also so melodic. But what do I know? Buy this and Trilogy 2, and find out. Fab stuff!

Age has not wearied him...
One of the great jazz pianists, and I say one of,rather than the greatest(although he has a claim to that title),because Keith Jarrett is for me,the acme of pianists(although a school of jazz some may not recognise,as he crosses many barriers),Chick here revisits old numbers, and introduces new ones(to me,at least) in his repertoire. All are outstanding.A great trio all round. Now a grand old man of jazz,I have followed his career from the earliest days to now,and still enjoy his music. Now I'm getting nostalgic for the Return to Forever days...must have a delve in the shelves, and rediscover my youth!Oh,lest I forget--My Foolish Heart--best version since Bill Evans!

Wonderfully put together
Wonderfully put together, and great playing as you would expect. Rivals Keith Jarrett's best trio on ' Somewhere ', until the last track, where Mr and Mrs Corea proceed to lose it in a fit of over indulgence!
