7/10: Fun novelty, but will definitely take some getting use too
Overall I do like these beat saber handles, but the best score I can give is 7/10, as they do have some issues...They do feel a bit cheap for the price, given you can pick up a set for oculus for less than £10, for £30 I expected a little bit more. These are just the only PSVR2 handles avaliable on the market, at least at time of purchase. The plastic feels cheap, and the small latches to line up the position of the top and bottom parts of the 'cup' are small and thin, and feel like they'd snap easily if I put too much force onto them. One other issue I've found, is that they're really heavy when held with controllers. In hindsight it makes sense - you put a heavy ball on the end of a stick, then hold the opposite end? Of course it's going to be heavy! I like to hold the end of the handle in the palm of my hand (a habit I picked up using the PS3/PSVR move controllers). Usually I can get through about 5-6 songs on beat saber before I need to take a rest, then play some more. With these handles - I got through 1.5 songs and had to turn the game off, because of how heavy they were. My arms were throbbing!I don't think this is necessarily an issue with the product, but I do think it's worth mentioning as part of the review. Just something to keep in mind. This takes some getting used to. I imagine it's just a case of building muscle in areas I don't normally use them.Other things to keep in mind - you'll need to adjust the rotation of the sabers in-game to make them align with the handles. This is in settings > settings > controllers. I found a rotation of 41° on the relevant angle (I think it's the X axis) was about right.Additionally, selecting songs becomes a bit of a chore, as the controllers are really awkward to hold normally when you need to point and click, especially when everything is offset by 41°.Positives though - it does add a fun new challenge to the game. You can combine the 2 handles to have a "darth maul" dual saber (I'm not a star wars fan but I believe that's the right character? Haha). Or you can have 2 single sabers.Despite the cheap feel, the plastic is fairly solid, and the controllers feel secure in the handles. I didn't have any worries about them coming out whilst playing. All the screws snap into place with a little clunk, not quite a click but you feel it settling into a groove. The wrist straps of the controllers fit between the 2 parts of the handle so that it's extra secure, and an additional wrist strap is provided on the bottom of the handle. The packaging is nice, lots of plastic bags, but no unnecessarily large box. Everything fits in neatly and packs away well.
