Are these actually the new low sugar variant?

Yes. The new Snickers White Low Sugar Protein Bars are now available and the product you'll receive will be a box of 12 bars which contain 20g of protein, only 2g sugar and 218 kcals. Unfortunately there is an issue with the two pictures on the product detail page which are showing the previous higher sugar version and this has been raised with Amazon. Yummy but only 11 bars

Excellent high protein low carb snacks. Yum. Mars however, should seal the boxes, as someone had opened the side perforations and stolen one out, very obvious this was what had happened, so I counted them

Taste pretty good.

Protein bars often taste pretty rank, but these are pretty close to standard Snickers bars, and so are easy to get down. Price is pretty fair too.
