Big Tree delivers a delightful read
Everyone ought to read this big fat book that’s chockablock full of pencil sketches. The tale is told tenderly and gives children through old age readers a precious story about what is lovely and true about the creation of and the changes of our living Earth. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE ! :)I bought one for my 40 year old daughter and her children and one for my older daughter and her girls.I’m an avid reader and this book has snuck into my list very greatly loved and valued at the very tippy top!

A Book That Brings Hope
I just finished the incredible Big Tree by the incomparable Brian Selznick. In a word? Exquisite.Told in Brian's incredible art and prose, this story is unlike anything I've read before. Brian Selznick always spins an incredible tale, and Big Tree is his most amazing yet.Part parable of the natural world and part story of a brother and sister trying to survive against all odds, Big Tree held me spellbound as the world that Selznick created came alive in front of me.The story filled me with awe, wonder, fascination, and hope. I love how Selznick used not only the light and shadow in his art but also the way that words were placed on a page to tell his tale.Pick this book up and let it take you away. I am filled with wonder because of it.

My mind was blown!
Brian Selznek is one of my favorite author/illustrators already and I was very excited to see he had a new book, but after reading it, my mind was blown! This is such a well crafted, absolutely amazing story with his simple dark, yet detailed illustrations that I couldn't believe one person could write something so touching to the soul and heart. And that it did, in every way. He made me care about two seeds in a dying world and gave me the ultimate hope for our world in the end. Pick up this book, read it with your child. Don't let the size of it intimidate you. The story is short. But while you are reading, don't forget that much of the story lies in the illustrations too. Let your child discover those treasures also. A smart 7 year old and up will love the story as much as any adult. It's a pricey book because it's hardback and thick, but it is one you will want to read with others, have in your library, and read over again in years to come just to gain back a sense of hope for the world when you start to lose it.

Beautifully Illustrated Tale of Earth and the Natural World
Another beautifully illustrated book by Brian Selznick. His pencil drawings have to be seen to be believed. Louise and Merwin are two sycamore seeds with roots and wings looking for a solid place to grow. Along the way, the two seeds encounter the history of Earth. The story ends with a serious message for the reader. The book is not exactly about trees in this nature tale. Highly recommended just for the beauty of the illustrations.
