Move Over Darling [DVD] [1963]

Great storyline - Doris has been marooned on a desert island for a number of years, and when finally rescued, finds herself declared dead, and her husband, played by James Garner about to marry Polly Bergen. Well, Doris certainly isn't going to allow that, and as the movie goes on, she gets madder and madder in that endearing way of hers (nobody ever did it better!) Garner, unlike Rock Hudson, also gets mad, especially when he hears that she wasn't alone on the island, but sharing it with hunky Chuck Connors. And so it continues, with poor old Polly Bergen wondering who the strange woman ruining her honeymoon is.Doris looks very glamorous, and sings the song 'Move Over Darling' as the opening credits roll, and from then on it's almost non-stop laughter, except for some rather poignant scenes with her young children. It's also good to see Thelma Ritter playing her elegant self, instead of the usual drunken characters she was landed with. Terrific De Luxe colour, and the Cinemascope aspect is preserved, but sadly, there are no subtitles for the hard of hearing.

This reminds of when I was a kid going to see it at the pictures in Halifax. W. Yorks. I just love this film. Doris is at her best, with brilliant shared billing with James Garner. Shes been on a desert island, with everyone thinking shes been 'lost' at sea for years. James Garner decides to get married, to also provide a mother for his 2 children.Doris gets rescued from the island, along with a hunk stranded with her, and immediately seeks out her family. Only to find her 'husband' has just set off on his honeymoon.This starts off an hilarious plot to get him back and divorce his new 'wife'. Throughly recommend it , even if you're not a Doris fan. Besides the theme song, sung by Doris just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.Go on escape the real world for and hour or 2.You won't regret it!

A FUNNY FILM. THIS IS THE MOVIE THAT MARYLN MONROE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING INCULIN THE FAMOUS NUDE SWIMMING POOL SCENE AS SEEN IN PLAYBOY MAGAZINE WHEN SHE DIED "SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE" WITH DEAN MARTIN CYD CHARISSE IN THE ROLLS NOW FILLED BY JAMES GARNER AND POLLY BERGIN. A POTTED VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL CAN BE FOUND ON THE DVD "MARYLYN MONROE-THE FINAL DAYS" THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AS FUNNY IF NOT MORE SO THAN THIS VERSION BUT IF YOU LIKE DORIS DAY BUY IT. BUT SOME SHOTS OF THE STARS HERE COULD BE MISTAKEN FOR OUTAKES FROM THE ORIGINAL BUY SORRY GUYS NO SWIMMING POOL SHOTS OF DORIS DAY TOO WHOLESOME . LOOK SEE FOR YOURSELF. DISTANT SHOTS IN PARTICULAR. BUT GREAT FILM BUY ENJOY

A classic in every sense of the word - a real must for Doris day fans and anybody who likes a good evening's comedy film with no bad language to worry about and so suitable for most audiences plus a cracking title song thrown in as well - brilliant! - and yes, they don't make them anymore like this sadly. So buy, sit back and enjoy Doris and company at their best. 5 Stars easy

Brilliant Classic Doris Day Comedy Movie.

I just love Doris Day films, and this one just keeps you laughing. Such a crack pot idea, but she seems to enjoy the whole scenario. What a lovely looking woman, works well with James Garner, great music, Doris was a great singer, still think Calamity Jane is her finest film, but this one does rate up with the best.

Words cannot describe this film - have watched it over and over again and each time I watch it (usually in tears for most of it) I always feel I am watching it for the first time - so so fantastic. Writing this review has made me want to take it out right now and watch it again!
