Great If You've Got An Itch For A 'Gothic' Game
Please be aware that i'm reviewing a patched version of the game, so whether you decide to patch it or not may alter your experience.Anyways, i picked up this German copy by accident, well, it says German but actually the game is still in English, (only the box art is in German) so that's a thing. Also this game was a lot better than i expected it to be, i've got to be honest, i haven't been a massive fan of the Risen games, however i've always had a soft spot for all the Gothic games, and this game really feels like a blend between Fallout and Gothic, maybe a little bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. thrown in there as well, at least in how some parts of the world are structured, and what an amazing world it is, this is one of the most immersive open worlds i've had to engage in for a long while, and it only helps that the environmental sounds here range from 'really good' to 'superb', great stuff! The combat on the other hand feels a bit clunky and i'm not a massive fan, i've got to admit though i'm only 10 hours into the game so i'm still stuck with a sword and bow, customizing the difficulty helped balance things out but i can't wait to get my hands on some better gear. And it's not only the combat that is clunky, in fact your first hours in this game are going to feel incredibly brutal, you will die over and over again (quick save often!) and you wont be able to do much combat wise since you'll be really weak, you will have to seek out simple quests and level up to about level 10, that's when you can go out and explore without having to fear much for dying as you should have better weapons and armor by that time depending what you've been doing, and that might be a problem because most people will probably want to explore right from the start, even when doing quests you will probably be getting side-tracked, not necessarily a bad thing, but it did keep me from getting leveled up faster than i should, but that's my fault.Anyways let me just cut to the good and bad:The Good:Great open-world designGreat sound designPretty alright voice acting for a budget gamePlenty of different monsters and factions to fight againstGood amount of moral choices to be made that alter the storyGreat custom difficulty options that allows certain sections to be harder-or easier depending on how you like to play.Overall pretty immersive game to spend hundreds of hours in given some effort by the player. The Bad:Horrific framerate in certain section of the game where it dips into single digits (also happens when there is too many enemies after you or when there's too many explosions going on, this happened to me a lot when i took refuge atop of buildings.)Mediocre texture qualities here and there and poor biome blending that can take you out of the immersion pretty quickly.Clunky combat that takes a long while to master, and even if you do master it, you will probably still fail, a lot, will most likely have to play around with different difficulty options in the starting hours to get anywhere.OVERALL:4/5 stars, a very strong but rough game, and a great one for those looking to scratch that Gothic itch, however i'd suggest buying this on PC if you've got a powerful enough rig to run it at it's fullest, as this port to the PS4 can perform really poorly at times, but not bad enough that you should shy away if you have an invested interest in this companies previous titles, a flawed gem in my opinion, buy it!

Only play if you want know what rage quitting is
had high hopes for this but my character to start is pathetic, everything and I mean everything kills you in about 2 hits and there's enemies everywhere! Can't get better weapons with out upping your starts which you can't get because that involves leveling up which is done by defeating eneimies which you cant do as you character is sooo crap! I had to re word this a few times to take out all the bad language!
