good reliable pre amp tube for valve amps

Ordered three of these now via Amazon and two have been damaged due poor packaging. Placing them in a cardboard envelope is not sufficient to protect them during transportation. Will order from Watford valves in future to save the hassle of Amazon returns.Good valves though and at good price…if they arrive in one piece.If the tube turns white after powering up then it’s either faulty manufacturing or has been damaged in transit.

I bought this as a last chance for a secondhand Nobosound Little Bear G3 tube drive pedal which was proving to be somewhat troublesome and erratic in regard to volume.Having read that it was possible to change the stock 6N2 valve with an ECC83 / 12AX7 (which was supposed to help tame the grittiness of the gain from the 6N2) and suspecting that the tube was responsible for the issues I was experiencing with the pedal I thought I would give it a try.On fitting the new 12AX7 I found sound quality was markedly improved (still retaining the grit but giving it a more polished and smoother quality) and so far there has been no erratic behaviour from the Little Bear. It's early days but so far I am impressed.The item was ordered at 17:00 and delivered next day so the customer service from Spartan Music is excellent. The only quibble was that the valve could have been better packaged.

Bought a set of these to replace the preamps that had got tired out in my JCM800. I already had a set of new JJ EL34's in the amp so I could compare the difference between the knackered and the new.Wow! Talk about ruining my neighbours' Christmas.I know I could spend a lot more on military spec valves but the JJ's are fine to my ear. The amp's never sounded so good. A very transparent sound with some rich low ends, un-muddly mids and crisp tops. Worked great straight out the box and only got better after I ran them in for 24hrs.The only reason I dropped a star is because amazon's packaging was pants - the valves arrived in one of those flat cardboard envelope packages with no padding whatsoever.

This valve has revived my Vox vt30 amp. Just when I thought all was lost, I put this bad boy in and my amp came back to life. Great price and easy to install
