Q: I want to put these at the bottom of a driveway to prevent water from entering the garage. Are they strong enough for a car to drive over them?

I didn't use it for a driveway I used them to divert water away from my house to stop water problems in the basement. I put one end of a grate on a 2x4 and stepped on the center and it broke but if it was channel it would hold a lot more, they are plastic.

Q: Install in grass what do you put down before putting it in soil? I saw the video but what was put down first?

After digging a deep enough trench for these, you must place gravel in the bottom of the trench to allow drainage of the trench itself and act as a foundation for the channel.
