Works as expected
Lots of parts, but it worked as expected once I got everything together. Easy instructions which is what matters the most with a product like this with many parts and is somewhat complicated.Do keep in mind that if you accidentally do not put the router down in the hole, it will ruin the letter, so be very careful! If I were to give a recommendation, it would be to have the instructions state this in VERY BIG BOLD LETTERS.But great product!John

Follow the instructions!
What I liked about this product is that it worked exactly as described. I attached the base plate to my fixed based palm router (which I wasn’t sure that I didn’t have to have a plunge router), and I followed all the directions, and my first project out the box was perfect. I read a lot of reviews prior to purchase, and saw plenty of people suggesting that the letter templates were cheap, and broke the first time they used them. I didn’t have a single problem with that. I was worth every penny spent! The only thing I would add is more font styles!

Milescraft 1206 SignCrafter kit
The unit is well thought out and easy to use. Although the whole set up appeared to be securely in place when checked by hand, it was not the case. Router pressure against the sides of the template caused the whole locking mechanism to move out of position. I would advise that bracing or clamps be applied to both ends, top and bottom before ever starting the first cut.

One of my best Amazon purchases!
I just got into using a router a wanted to make some signs for our home. Freehanded a few and they turned out ok but took forever! And far from perfect. Saw a youtube on this product and had to have one. This thing comes with absolutely everthing but the router!!! I Immediately set it up, 5 mins, and used my porter cable plunge router to make the sign. What took me hours before took less than 10 minutes and it was absolutely perfect, flawless! All the included parts are extremely well made and will last a lifetime. Am so glad I made this purchase. Customer service is great too!

OK I suppose
The kit is quite flimsy but will get the job done. Also, upon inspecting the contents when first opened, I noticed that Rockler had sent a kit that had been previously used and returned. Not too hard to see why it would have been returned.

Bought two sign kits & EZ to use!
Bought two sign kits. Easy to use. Just follow the directions. Made a few practice cuts and now cutting letters in wood. Good wood sign making kit that does the job well with a bit of practice. Kit includes a basic letter set. If you want the smaller/shorter letters then go ahead and order the additional/optional lettering kit at the same time. The kits are a good buy for the price and I would buy them again. Thanks! Fred

Great for wood signs- easy to use.
Easy to use. Very handy- if you need to make a simple sign with wood, this is a great option. Please note that you can NOT use a small laminate router with this product. You need a full-size router or one that has a regular-style router place to attach the guide. I have both, so it is not a problem. I love the trim router because it is small and easy to hold. I can't use it with this product.

Well designed, poorly executed - you get what you pay for...
I was really excited about this kit, people seem to rave about it all over the place. I couldn't wait to carve the names of my kids into the sandbox seats.Opening the box, I was astounded by the number of items and spares that were included. I easily created a full stack of letters, since my kids each have four letter names, I could put them both into the carrier and put in one extra letter to fill it out.I have a Dewalt 618 and I used the plunge base for this task. The Signcraft base that is included with the kit is VERY thick, you may need longer screws to use it with your router. I had probably 2-3 threads holding the base in place with the screws that were included in my router kit.Following the instructions, I was preparing for the final steps before powering up the router for the first time... Lining up the cutter depth. Got everything set to the correct depths, and was retracting the bit before turning it on. Crack. What was that? As the bit was retracing, it hooked on the letter and snapped the template. I'd suggest buying a straight bit as you need to be able to move the bit around the template and power off/raise after each letter. You only have 10mm or so distance to power it down without it sitting on your work surface spinning away. With a straight bit, you can use the plunge as designed. Now, back to the letter box, good thing they give you so many letters, I had an extra capital L to replace the one that is now broken. Secure a piece of wood to practice on... Now mind you, no where in the instructions does it give you an idea of what speed to run your router. This is a small bit, so logic would tell you to crank up the speed. I very carefully now insert the router into the template, turn it up to 5 out of 6 and power it on. Instantly this melts the plastic template and runs the router away making a mess of the first try. Great. Now my second and last letter L has been trashed.I went ahead with the name carving, it didn't turn out nearly as good as I had hoped. I had to run by hand in areas of the L since the template was melted from previously. I'm aware it would increase the cost, the templates really need to be made out of something less flimsy, and more resistant to heat.
