I purchased this after a can opener/knife sharpener from Walmart, branded Mainstays, turned out to be defectively designed and/or built: it does not sharpen knives; in fact, it dulls them. Cans open but knives do not fair well. Also from China but with the name Cuisinart behind it, this is not electric but does the job. Compact, well thought out design. Most satisfactory.
