Baume & Mercier Men's 8731 Classima Automatic Strap Watch

My aesthetic is for a more minimalist look and the Baume & Mercier Classima Automatic Strap Watch was perfect. I do not like the extremely large and gaudy chronographs, preferring a simple Timex for my stopwatch/sport/physical activity needs. Seriously, who wears a $1000 plus watch doing something like that. For dressy occasions, I just want to know the time and not have some plastic piece that detracts from a suit.The Classima delivers. It offers relatively accurate time keeping - mine has been accurate to about 10 seconds per week, which is pretty good for an automatic, though your mileage may vary. The sapphire glass is very resistant to wear and tear and the leather band is of high quality. The strap closing mechanism is easy to set/use and very convenient. The only negative I would say is that the metal is already scratching a little after three months of wear, but I would attribute that to my carelessness.Two points of note:1. The Classima in this style comes in two different watch face sizes. The 8731, which is 42mm, and the 8791, which is 39mm and are otherwise identical. I accidentally ordered the 8731 when I wanted the 8791. Returns with Amazon were painless.2. Ordering with Amazon may mean the watch is grey market unless Amazon is an official seller of that brand and your are buying from Amazon. Almost every seller on Amazon will be selling grey market watches as they can sell these at lower prices than the manufacturer allows. That does not mean they are not legit, it does mean the watch will not have the original manufacturer's warranty

I recently ordered this watch because I fell in love with it after seeing it in person. Upon receiving it I took it out and wore it for a day(after winding it to charge it as directed in the manual). That is when I discovered the watch was gaining 15 seconds per day. I reset the watch and tested it again, only to find it was still gaining time. I called Amazon to figure out what to do about the matter. They told me I could send it to the warranty repair center and I would have it back five days after they received it. Upon talking to the warranty place they told me I would have to pay to ship it to them and it was take at least 4 to 6 weeks. Of course I didn't want to wait that long to wear the watch again so I called amazon back and asked them just to replace my current watch. They told me they could do that but since I took it out, they would have to send it through their "service" to check over the watch and they would then charge me an unknown percentage of the cost of the watch as they saw fit based on the condition. Take into account this is only a few days after I bought the watch and have only been wearing it around my house, but I didn't know what they were going to find wrong with it since they sent me a broken watch in the first place. They also told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks for them to process the watch after I sent it to them, and I would have to pay the difference then before the new watch was sent to me. So basically it is a beautiful watch, but pray that there is nothing wrong with it when it comes in the mail. I ended up sending it to the warranty place because although horrible, it was the best option.

This watch is supplied not by Baume and Mercier or an authorized dealer but by JOMA shop, a merchant that provides its OWN warranty. Any work that needs to be done, the watch must be sent back to them - you cannot take it to a Baume and Mercier dealer for any warranty work. JOMA shop has its own website, but NO factory warranties are offered - only their own.

This is a beautiful watch and my fiance absolutely loves it! It was exactly what we had picked out at a much more expensive jewelry store for half of the price. It is gorgeous. The only reason why I didn't give give stars is that I discovered after we purchased the watch that the warranty will not work because we did not purchase the watch from an authorized dealer. If we needed to send the watch in it would not be covered under warranty by Baume & Mercier

This B&M watch, the 8731 has proven to be just what it was expected to be when I purchased it a few weeks ago. The watch wears comfortably, not too big, not too heavy, large enough to be contemporary. It wears well with a suit, but isn't out of place in a more casual environment. Construction materials are basic, stainless steel and leather band. It is accurate, and has an adequate power reserve ( I get the better part of two days). No unnecessary complications or expensive precious metals adding thousands to the cost. For those who prefer and appreciate a swiss mechanical movement rather than quartz this is a great watch. For those who want those qualities without gold, diamonds, and a half dozen complications, this is an excellent choice for a watch.

I'm not a customer, and after seeing the description...never will - are you kidding me with the features descriptions?!?!? "Water resistant to 99 feet (30 M): withstands rain and splashes of water, but not showering or submersion" - "but not showering or submersion" -well, then, what is "water resistant to 99 feet mean?!?!?! -that person should be fired...and i would not pay $1K for any watch that can't withstand, heavy rain (or A SHOWER!). -sorry, i never write reviews, but saw this and..could. not. help. myself.

I bought this watch after alot of search and comparision with other similar watches. Byild quality and the looks are pretty good. The only problem is the automatic power reserve which only last for max 8 hrs. Every day after taking off the watch i had to reset the time as its aleady stopped during the night.I would recommend to purchase something with better power reserve.

Nice watch, not as thick as some 42mm automatics, which is good so you can button your shirt cuff. Face detail not quite as interesting as it appeared on the website but, overal, I'm happy with the watch, especially at the price.
