Down the Hole & Into the River!!!
A book with all the elements that make up an engaging story, allegory, and magical folk tale; gripping voice and enthralling world. Wonderfully translated (at least from what I can tell). Not for the faint of heart, but absolutely recommend for those interested in reading about satire, cucumbers, yokai, death, fabulism, or frogs. I was sad to have finished it.

Japanese Philosophical Satire
I bought this novel in Kindle and read at once.I wrote about this novel in my Facebook page and got a good response from friends.Akutagawa is a serious writer dealing psychological situations in human life. He is the one who wrote the great story called ROSHOMON. This story was made as a movie by Akira Kurasowa in 1950. I saw the movie when I was 20 years old, i.e.1977. It was a great movie. The I searched it's author Akutagawa. But this novel is a different one making Japan as an allegory. Right from the first page it was so funny to read the parody of Akutagawa on all the absurd things of a human life. Particularly the living as a society with all the apparatus, Nation national-education-philosophy etc. Buy this small novel, read and enjoy.K SAMAYAVEL
