Doesn't support power requirements during a cut
Seems to be very sensitive to short outages - entire item crashes, screen flickers on and off and provides no power for connected devices. May need replacement batteries but would expect a unit of this type to notify user when batteries not up to scratch. On balance, a poor buy

Worth it in the end
It looks the part and provides smooth, stable power for my media server and NAS drives. Unlike my old UPS, it is also very quiet (so far) although I imagine the fan will come on during a power cut. I like the 'battery level' and 'demand' gauges. I like having large backup capacity in a small-ish package, and I like the voltage regulation and sine-wave output, which protects the power supplies in my precious equipment from stress (as well as providing backup during power outages). However, as another reviewer has pointed out, the smell it produces is quite overpowering. Within half an hour of connecting it up and turning it on my office was filled with a horrendous, sickly, acrid, pungent stench. It smelled extremely toxic a bit like burning plastic. One whiff will send you running from the room.I ran it for 5 days with my office windows fully open. Last night I closed the windows to see if the stink built up overnight. When I came down in the morning there was no smell (thank goodness). It would be nice if Power Inspired could run these units for a few days before they ship them, but I do understand that if they did then the cost would go up.So .... on balance I would say that it's worth putting up with the smell while it's 'running in' to get a fairly high spec unit at a very reasonable price. That being said, I'm going to knock off 1 star as retribution for what it did to my poor nose.

Lots of power and lots of smell
This Power Inspired UPS (VIS2000) seems to be doing the job well and has plenty of grunt. There are four standard UK three-pin sockets on the rear to distribute the protected power. The display shows input and output voltage, load and battery levels (graphically), and various warnings. There's a single large 'on-off' button on the front, but pressing it will instantly cut all power to your protected equipment. The 2000VA/1400W unit version has two 12V sealed lead-acid batteries. It is compact, but surprisingly long. The instructions state that you are not supposed to attach a power strip or surge suppressor, without explaining why. The unit is usually completely silent, but the fan will come on when the input voltage drops out of range and the UPS goes into boost mode using the battery to raise it closer to the usual 240V. Here in the wilds of Norfolk, it's surprising how often this happens (several times a week - usually for less than half-an-hour each time). The device is noisy with the fan running, but as this will be mostly during a power cut, that will be the least of my worries! The biggest problem I've had since the UPS arrived a couple of weeks ago has been the smell. The unit has given off a very 'toxic' smell, that gets you in the throat and makes you feel sick. I'd recommend setting it up to run by itself in the garage for a couple of weeks for the smell to wear off before first use.
