Shipped on time and came as advertised. This was a gift for a family member, and it turned out great! the fact that it has built in isotopes was a major buying factor since spectrum analyzers are required with most models. Depending on whether or not you know what your doing the presets are a huge plus with this model. Even if your a novice this piece will work for you and will continue to work as you learn how to use it and become seasoned. This is one of the only products that comes with software to analyze your results as well as technical support and free calibration after a period of time. This comes in handy if you use it on a regular basis or occasionally. The factory warranty grants a free calibration for the first time but factory specs are more than good. This is a perfect product for the avid user or anyone who is weary of a changing ecosystem. Don't be fooled! This is the real deal. Fukushima has had a huge impact on the environment and will continue to do so. This is a must for anyone wanting high quality for a reasonable price. No matter what, if you like it or not, we are all going to have to deal with radiation in the years to come. It would behoove you to have something like this in preparation for the future: it is inevitable!

Very good, accuracy was spot on for alpha - Beta, and Gamma test samples. It did not come with a manual, but you can download it off their site, and they have a few short video's that take you through the mode changes and functions. Data logging is simple to use. The case feels a little fragile so the protective case is a must.

I have had this product for about a month now and I am very pleased with it save for a few exceptions.The package came in a nice little box and ships inside the boot inside the yellow case. It comes with a CD, a registration card, and a USB cable.I bought this for general background monitoring and to survey my small but growing uranium ore collection. My favorite features are:1. The ability to data log.2. The ability to switch between CPM/CPS µSv and mR (though you should, for all practical purposes not use the energy readings unless you know what isotope you are measuring for. It will get you in the ballpark but will not be entirely accurate. If you want to measure true dose rate there are better meters such as a tissue equivalent scintillator so beware of this fact).3. The timed count function.4. The ability to adjust and change efficiencies (though I have not played much with it).5. The boot is a must have to protect your unit!6. The alarm function is awesome and always peaks my interest when it goes off.7. I have been able to detect low levels of radioactivity coming off shales and a few other rocks common in my area.8. When I got mine I paid $507; price on Amazon has increased since then. It was a real value.9. The pancake is supersensitive10. Battery Life: This has been running 24/7 for about a month and the battery is still strong!The downside:1. It does NOT come with a paper manual. You have to download it. I am one of those types that enjoy having a reference in my hands when I want it.2. It came out of the box with a functionality problem. Say you want to adjust the amount of time you want to do a timed count or you want to adjust your alarm threshold up or down. There are plus and minus buttons on top of the unit that control this feature. The values only go UP even when you are pressing the minus button. This is NOT supposed to happen. At least I can adjust it with the USB cable and a PC but I don't always have my PC with me.I called Customer Support at SEI and they are great and friendly. The chap I spoke to offered some advice on how to fix it (perhaps loosening the top screws) but this did not work. It is under warranty and he said to mail it in to them and they would either fix it or replace the unit. I have not yet done this but plan to very soon. I will update this review when I do.3. Superficially I wish it were solid black rather than blue.In Summation: I am very pleased with it and would recommend it. The customer service is very good. Be mindful, though, at this price you can buy a used scintillator which has it's own benefits. So really think about what this device is for and can do.

Realize that a pancake GM detector is fragile and cannot sustain jolts or drops without possible damage. Very easy to use radiation detector that includes setup software. Be very careful NOT to touch the detector to contaminated samples. Such as water or food. An additional sample plate is available for sensitive wipe tests. Owning a detector is the only way to know the truth of your exposure. We can not depend on our government or the media to as much as mention real problems.Most people have not a clue regarding Fukushima. The world has been receiving varying amounts of unusual radioactivity sinceMarch 11, 2011. Japan has passed gag legislation that would incarcerate anyone that would tell the truth about Fukushima. Now we have WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) near Carlsbad, NM emitting radioactivity here in the USA that hardly gets mentioned in our media.

This is a very unfussy measurement instrument. It displays (digitally) the counts in the two most useful units (I like mR/hr), while giving - optionally - audible "clicks" and it is easy to move around and work with. It has a 9 V battery that will last a long time, so I am told.

This is the 2nd unit I've purchased. First one was for me and this second one is for my daughter who lives in Kauai. With the ongoing nightmare in Japan, every family should have one of these. I just keep mine set on CPM and watch the numbers climb as the disaster continues to get worse. I live in AZ but radiation has spread beyond the mainland here in the U.S. and some areas are pretty bad, especially on the east coast. I like this unit. It's simple to use, easy to read, seems to be a solidly built piece of equipment with a heavy duty protective outer case. If you can't afford this one, buy something you can afford. You really cannot afford NOT to own one. The situation is dire and everyone should know what they're being exposed to at any given moment. Good luck in your quest.
