Read instructions carefully Special Precautionary Notice It has come to our attention that Hottie thermal packs are being damaged by use in the small chamber microwave ovens that are now on the market. The damage appears as holes of melted plastic in one or more corners of the plastic pouch. This may occur on the first time of use, and may therefore easily be mistaken for a manufacturing defect. The damage occurs when the Hottie thermal pack is unable to rotate freely. The pack does not need to become trapped to cause this damage, which may in some cases result from a very short interruption to rotation. If your microwave oven is small--17 litre or less--or your turntable is less than 25 cm diameter or rotation of the pack is impeded in any way, you should not use that microwave to heat your Hottie in the normal way. It is possible to gently roll your thermal pack and secure with an elastic band. Some customers have found this satisfactory in smaller microwaves. From March 1st 2011, we will no longer replace free of charge thermal packs which show this type of damage. We thank the many loyal customers whose feedback has helped us identify the cause of this problem. We are working to produce a thermal pack which will both fit smaller microwave ovens and maintain the high standards of warmth, comfort and safety our customers have come to expect from Hotties.

Love this heat wrap but I just wish the waist wrap Velcro was extended more to fit smaller waisted people. It's too big on me, but it would be perfect with a slight extension of the Velcro.

A Great Product for your back
Great for sore backs....expandable belt for comfort also. My husband uses it mainly for heat. This is the second one we have ordered...the first one lasted over 5 years with constant use.

Nice well made heat belt and I’m pleased with the purchase. I listed some accurate sizes which may be helpful to people (Why advertisers cannot include this basic information I don’t know) Main belt’s overall length is 42” – Now allowing a 2” minimum overlap for the Velcro to grip I expect it would be a little tight (uncomfortable) on a 38” waist but would be perfect on waists between 36” to 28" (Using the little Velcro extension gives another 4” of length but not elegantly) Belt pocket approx 9” x 9” - Gel pack itself approx 8” x 8.5” and 7/8” thick (Approx 12” diagonal) Important - Remember do not overheat the pack as it can become dangerously hot and even damage the pack itself. Also make sure the pack is rotating freely in the microwave so it heats evenly (No hotspots)

If warmth eases your pain, then Hotties backwrap is the best solution
This most recent purchase is for my husband, who has had intermittent pain for 40 years - muscular rather than spinal or joint. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteo Arthritis, and loss of spinal disc volume in my neck and lower back, so warmth is key to pain reduction, to minimise my use of painkillers. The advantage of Hotties products is the length of time that heat remains in the gel pack, (up to 2 hours) and because the fabric wraps are custom designed to fit specific areas, the warmth goes where you want it but without burning you. Microwavable gel packs are safe, last a very long time even in regular use, and replaceable at a reasonable cost. I have adapted my back wrap so that the gel pack can sit lower on my hips to relieve sciatica, and hip pain while I await a 2nd hip replacement. I also use the gel pack in a different wrap as a hot water bottle alternative, and (home made) in a weighted over shoulder comforter, or back of neck comforter. I'm very small, but my husband's wrap has to go round 36" waist. I think a 40" waist might need additional fabric sewn in and then adjust the Velcro to fasten. Hotties have more information on their website and are helpful

I had to make adjustments, but highly recommend.
Highly recommend, im 24 and have multi level degenerative disc disease and this works wonders. Only problem was its way to big on me. I had to sew a extra sticky bit so it would fit me.The heat lasts about 4-5 hours after that it will stay warm but not hot. I have been using it constantly ever since, even sleeping with it on. Really has made improvements, even sleeping better. Give it ago. Works for me.Please make smaller sizes for us little people :)

apart from feeling a bit like a tortoise (which I am sure is purely psychological) ...
I have an aggressive form of MS and have lesions (scarring) on my spinal chord. This gives varying degrees of back pain, stiffness and numbness, especially in the late afternoon, evening and at night. Neurological pain relief is of limited use at these times..Having exploded two bottle shaped Hottie warmers in the microwave, which was my own fault for overheating them, I needed a replacement. Whilst searching on Amazon, I saw the back wrap and decided to give it a go.Well, apart from feeling a bit like a tortoise (which I am sure is purely psychological) I can barely cope without it. The relief I derive is exceptional. I have bought a spare pack, so one can be heating up in the microwave when the other is losing heat in the wrap. I don't know if you are supposed to, but I am wearing mine in bed. Unlike the bottle shaped Hottie, the wrap moves with you, so the benefit is constant even when turning over in bed. It is still faintly warm in the morning. For anyone suffering neurological back pain, I can strongly recommend this product. However, there are a couple of points to note:1. The packs require very gentle heating. It is best to heat for 30 seconds, turn the pack over and carry on like this until the maximum time is reached.2. The heat wrap pack is fairly large. I have bought a second microwave for my bedroom so I can heat up my various packs quickly if I am really unwell and spending time in bed. This microwave is slightly smaller than my kitchen one. The result is that the turntable will not turn with the pack on it. I have overcome the problem by turning the plastic corners of the pack underneath itself, so that the turntable just turns but it is a bit of a nuisance!

Just what the doctor ordered
I've suffered with a couple of back problems this year - starting with a partially fused sacro-illiac joint, then seperating the same joint in a motorcycle crash, and just for fun I got whiplash in a minor car crash (fun year, eh?) - and one of the things that my doctors and physios have all said I should do, in addition to keeping the joint moving, is keep it warm and especially before doing my stretches and exercises. I'd been using a hot water bottle but that's not much use when you're out of the house, and they just don't hold the heat for very long. After doing a little internet searching I found the Hotties microwaveable heat wrap, which seemed a little expensive but looked like a good candidate due to the ability to wear it discretely, and with the claimed 5 hours of effectiveness. So, I've had mine for about two weeks now and I have to say that I hardly take it off. I give it a two minute blast in the micro then fasten it around my waist and under my trousers and t-shirt. I often forget that it's there. There are only two things that I would mark it down for: firstly, the velcro fastener can sometimes dig into my tummy, but I'm happy to take the blame for that as I have too much of one, and it does have quite a lot of range fitwise. Secondly, when it's still warm it can get a bit sweaty if you do any sort of exercise. The claimed 5 hours of effectiveness is a bit optomistic but I reckon it's good for 3 hours before you might notice the reduction in temperature and at that point I just give it another one minute in the micro. I never expected 5 hours of hot use so I haven't marked it down on that, and it is still warm after that time as long as you've had it next to your body all that time.Overall it has been great for me and definitely made my recovery much easier (in conjunction with my physio's help). Incidentally, I showed it to my physio and he was impressed by how warm and compact it was.Well worth buying if you suffer with bad lower back pain.
