Such a lovely lesser-known story by Eleanor Porter
Miss Billy is a girl who is taken in by three men after they initially mistake her for a boy. The trilogy tracks her story from girl to housewife, with very real-life (but no less distressing) ups and downs on the way: at first, she feels rejected for not being a man, and then she isn't sure if the one she loves, loves her too; and then when they are eventually married, she has a catty sister-in-law to contend with and housekeeping is a challenge; and finally she thinks her husband is falling in love with a woman he is working with, while a man she tries to matchmake with a friend uncooperatively falls for Miss Billy herself. This is one of Porter's most realistic stories and it feels the most timeless: it's very easy to identify with Miss Billy. It's humorous and fast-paced.

Throw together an unworldly orphaned teenager with 3 confirmed bachelor brothers and watch chaos ensue
A teenage girl is orphaned and seeking a new place to live until she is deemed old enough to take over her inheritance(by Victorian standards). Immature in many ways she decides to seek out her father's school friend for whom she is named and writes to him asking that he take her in. Confusion ensues with the assumption that Billy is a boy, having never met the child before. A bedroom adorned with fishing rods, hunting trophy's and bug collections awaits "his" arrival. Billy, unaware of the chaos her arrival will cause, goes on to have a profound effect on the all male household.Over all its a good read. Funny in the first half but gets a bit labored in the 2nd half after Billy inherits.

Large size - 3 books in one
Was very surprised when this arrived as not expected it to be quite so BIG.The printing inside is of good quality though. Quite easy to read, if you can support the weight of the book!Cover slightly disappointing as cover picture blurred.

Lovely.
An old fashioned tale in the style, almost, of Anne of Green Gables. Beautifully written and quaintly dated now, but gentle escapism with humour, pathos and enduring lessons is a happy antidote to our modern world.

I enjoyed it, but possibly a bit slow for todays generation, unless they accept the huge differences in social conduct and meanings of wordsof a love story written in a very different era.
