Don’t let the price fool you.
I recently found out about Cozart in my quest to build my dream Tele. After pulling my hair out for weeks trying to decide which route I wanted to go, I was about to give up. There’s no way I could afford a real 72 Thinline and then mod it on top of the price of the guitar itself. There’s no way I could ever possibly afford a custom built guitar with all the options I want in it. Not right now that is. All I was really looking for was a Tele Thinline body and a playable neck.I found this guitar for sale on eBay and I couldn’t pass up the price. I just got it in the mail yesterday and boy! This little axe blew me away! The neck was surprisingly straight even though it shipped from the hot, muggy climate of missouri to the cold, dry climate of Colorado. The fretboard was a tad dry, but still certainly playable and the fretwork was better than probably 95% of guitars in this price range. It plays smooth, and there is absolutely zero fret buzz. It was already intonated and fully set up when it arrived, which says a lot about this company because we all know what a neat those three barrel bridges can be to intonate. The action was slightly higher than I was comfortable with but nothing unplayable. The body itself was very light, yet so was the neck, but not in an uncomfortable way. It’s got just enough weight to it that it feels solid in your hands, yet not so heavy that an hour long gig will give you neck cramps from the dig of a strap. The hardware on this piece is honestly where it falls slightly short. The tuners are not the worst sealed tuners I’ve seen, but they’re not the greatest. The electronics are its worst part. These pickups sound fine at low levels, but they lack output. While acoustic, this guitar is plenty loud but plugging it in doesn’t make it much louder. I had to turn my 15w marshal amp up to around 3 o clock to be able to hear over the acoustic sound of this guitar.Additionally, there is no “hum canceling” parallel middle position on this, as it hums in all three positions. Nothing unbearable, but it is there. The pots were inconsistent from one another, as the volume pot was slow and sticky and the tone pot was rather slick feeling. And the final details I must mention is that the top, while it looks very beautiful, I was still disappointed to find that it is just a thin veneer of some sort, in plywood. As well, the scratchguard was very inconsistently cut, as not all the edges were beveled at the same angle, and there were little burrs all over the edge of it that had to be cut away before it was playable. All in all, I must say this little axe is a great buy for the money. I bought it because I’ve been dying to build a Thinline T Style guitar for such a long time now and while it’s far from what I’m really wanting, it is still in fact a very pleasing piece.I would have just bought a kit, but I needed something that would be playable now, so then I am able to mod it and complete my work over the summer when it warms up. By the time I get done with it, it’ll pretty much be an entirely different guitar, but I’m proud to say I’m a Cozart guitar owner and I will certainly rwccomend them to anybody looking for a player level guitar on an urgently tight budget.I give this guitar five stars for its simple fact that it was an immediately playable guitar as soon as I pulled it out of the box.Thank you Cozart, and keep up the great work.
