Hope you never need it but be glad you have one
The media could not be loaded. I found it quite hard to choose between the X-Sense range of smoke alarms, they all seem to be well priced and have great reviews so I went for the SD10F.Out of the box and it’s a smaller unit than I expected, it also light and slim. It comes with a back plate that you can screw to the ceiling and then the main housing pushes and turns to clip in place – this ‘push and turn’ also activates the battery as there is a push button which is depressed in this action. For my purchase I also got the MA-1 magnetic attachments (5 in the box) so instead of screwing the unit to the ceiling I attached one of these metal plates. The idea behind these is that you have 2 metal disks with large heavy duty sticky pads on each and one disk is magnetised. One part gets stuck onto the unit into a ready made groove and the other metal disk sticks to the ceiling That way you can borrow it if you are say working in the shed or the garage where you wouldn’t normally have/need one, mind you for £10 perhaps I should just invest. So the alarm itself has a 10 year battery and if we all remember, please come back for an update :) The alarm sound is recognisable as a smoke alarm and lets out a piercing noise and now I know what 85 decibels sounds like. Its turned of by a simple press, or two presses in the video. I don’t believe you can replace the battery. When the alarm is active (not activated) the red light flashes about every 30 seconds to remind you that it works. The blurb says it has a low battery warning and please come back for that update, unless it didn’t of course. So nice and easy. For me, no screws no hassle and adaptability. The unit is well made light and smart. See you in a few years.... perhapsLike my review please say you did, below

Battery failed after 5 years.
Although this worked great at first and is nice and compact. The battery failed after 5 years and is now useless as you can not change the battery.I have emailed the company who make this item.... Awaiting response....

Alarm is fine.
Not too much to get wrong, but they managed it. Completely miss-matched raw plug and screw sizes. Alarm is fine.

A neat and reliable smoke alarm
I bought this alarm to replace one that had been in situ over 10 years. This is good, as the battery should last the full life of the alarm. It’s a neat size at 11cm diameter x 4cm.It has a low battery warning and in normal operation the red light flashes every 30 seconds. It is simple to fit and it comes with the baseplate, screws and raw plugs. I also see that you can buy magnetic adhesive pads.Overall we are pleased with the smoke alarm and plan to buy a second one now.

Battery completely dead, bought in 2017
If I could be bothered I would try and claim off the guarantee they supposedly offer but something tells me that's not worth my effort. For something that is supposed to last 10 years I would say less than 50% use is shocking, especially for a safety device. I'll return to the normal battery change ones as the fireangel was put in at the same time and is still going strong on the same 9v battery

Battery lasted 4 years not the 10 claimed
Battery lasted 4 years and not the 10 claimed. I can't speak for its ability as a smoke alarm as thankfully I have not needed it to act as such. More worryingly it suggests testing once a week and I probably tested twice a year so if I had tested as recommended it probably would have lasted even less than it did.

Good value, quality device
Appears well constructed, with a clean modern design. What isn't entirely clear from the get go is that there us a small plastic button to the rear of the device which needs to be depressed permanently to activate it - hence it should be used only with the screw mounting bracket supplied. If you are using with the X-Sense MA-1 Magnetic Attachments for Smoke Detectors [5-Pack] (which I recommend - sturdy and a good size), then the pads should be affixed to the back of the mounting bracket, not the device itself.Battery tested regularly over the last 3 months and all appears in working order, although not (thankfully) as yet tested in a real world scenario.

Great unit, perhaps no screws required if you use Command Strips.
Yep, does the job and was easy to fit. You might want to use Command Strips instead of screwing into the ceiling. The unit is very light command strips just make life easier.
