Harper L Woods captures my heart again.
Really, closer to 4.5 stars. Are there going to be spoilers in this? Honestly, idk. Maybe. Proceed with caution. I won’t give the big cliffhanger reveal at the end, at any rate. You know when you have those books that you immediately jive with? Before I was even halfway through this book, I preordered a copy of its sequel from Amazon. I also had already recommended it to a friend or two.Willow Green’s mother just died, leaving her and her younger brother, Ash, on their own. Together they live a human existence. It’s all Ash has known. But with the death of their mother, the protection wards that have been hiding the family for the past twenty years or so come down, revealing Willow - a witch very much in her power - to a coven located in Crystal Hollow (a place mixed in, but warded from, Salem, Mass.).Willow’s mother, a legacy Green (a witch who deals with nature), faked her death years ago to escape the Coven. She was believed to be the last of her line. In order to protect Ash, Willow sends him to go live with his father when the beings known as Vessels (basically a golem with the soul of a demon), arrive at Willow’s door to offer her an exclusive invitation to Hollow’s Grove University. A school which has only just reopened its doors to the outside world after a massacre that happened 50 years ago.The Vessels and witches have a sort of tense relationship. The Vessels feed on blood but only witch blood can really sustain them. And the witches can’t really kill them without, essentially, unaliving themselves.Enter our morally (dark) grey MMC Alaric Grayson Thorne, a Vessel and the headmaster at the university. He’s an a**hole. He pushes boundaries. He’s manipulative and a liar. And we love to see it. He’s hiding secrets. He has his own agenda against the coven. And he’s prepared to use Willow by any means necessary to reach his goals.Meanwhile, Willow has secrets of her own. She’s not just a Green. From her father’s side, she’s also the last of the Hecate line, a lineage of witches who are more commonly known as necromancers and whose ancestor is none other than the first witch, Charlotte Hecate. In order for Willow to tap into the magic of that side of her, though, she needs to find the hidden bones of her ancestors.Willow’s aunt (her father’s sister) died in that massacre half a century ago and she’s been training her whole life to enact his revenge. But now it seems as if the massacre is beginning all over again.Utter. Freaking. Chaos. Ensues.I spent most of this story so caught up in the drama of what was happening that I didn’t really try to seek out who was behind the deaths. Nobody seems trustworthy except maybe Iban and Della (two other students). Allies turn on each other. Forbidden relationships are formed. And choices are made.I read this book in a day. I need book two immediately. Also, how tf are we going to be left on a bigger cliffhanger after the book two, first chapter bonus content than we were at the end of book one??? I’m dying. I need more.2.5 for 🌶️. (They talk a lot about doing the thing, but not much of the book is spent on the act.)

Witch Books are Best Books
I jumped into this one just for kicks. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. My only complaint is not getting more. The story could’ve used more pages to flesh out its characters and plot, but it didn’t deter my enjoyment. I was hooked from the very first page. The romance is Zodiac Academy’s Lance x Darcy combined with Wrath x Emilia from Kingdom of the Wicked, but make it much much much darker. Gray has his SECRETS. I guessed the big reveal at the end, but wasn’t expecting just how unhinged everything became.Every little thing has a purpose. I’m looking forward to rereading the last few chapters to see what I can catch. My mind is still buzzing with all the mystery, romance, and betrayal. It’s safe to say I preordered its sequel already!Rating:4.5/5Spice Meter:3/5

Holy Twists!!
I’m truly obsessed with Harper L. Woods (Adelaide Forrest) fantasy worlds! I have been recommended this book by some of my favorite book besties, since it came out, and I’m so glad I got it. I love Grey! He is the mysterious dark, moral gray, immortal demon every good witch needs. Willow is not just any ordinary good witch, she is kickbu++ with a lot of sass. When you think you know how the story is going to go, bam that twist hit and the ending was a HC moment. Can not wait to read the next book!!!CW/18+

Wow!
Not only is this the first book I have ever read from this author, but it's the first book I have read in this genre and LOVED. I typically read military romance, billionaire lovers, etc.. but this book sucked me in from page 1. I am honestly addicted and yet so disappointed I have to wait 23 days for the second book to be released! This book is filled with character development, depth, and details, and it pulls you into its pages.Even if this isn't your normal book type.. take the leap, step out of your comfort zone, and read this book!

Very good!
I wasn't sure I was going to like this book for the first chapter or so but I'm so glad I kept reading! It's definitely one of my current favorites! Definitely recommend reading it to anyone who is even remotely interested

Pretty much devoured this glory right up but that ending only left me craving for more. I loved reading a brand-new perspective on modern day Salem. The world took a minute for me catch up but once I was in, I could not put it down. My only saving grace for that cliff hanger ending is that the wait for The Cursed is not long.Willow, oh my fierce Willow! She has forever gained a spot in my favourites. She is a fighter, and she is so damn strong. Her protective nature of her little brother is something that my heart needed to experience. Her vulnerable side stole the show for me. Her fearlessness and kindness are inspiring and remarkable. I instantly clicked with her. Her past is not an easy one, but she is not afraid to stand up and change those wrongs into rights. She is no sacrificial helpless lamb.. If anything, she is a wolf ready to take lead at any time. There is nothing I love than a bit of female rage and let me tell you my girl came through."𝓐𝓼 𝓶𝓾𝓬𝓱 𝓪𝓼 𝓘 𝓱𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓸 𝓬𝓻𝔂 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓷 𝓘 𝔀𝓪𝓼 𝓼𝓪𝓭, 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓻𝓪𝓰𝓮 𝓬𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓼 𝔀𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓪𝓫𝓼𝓸𝓵𝓾𝓽𝓮 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓼𝓽.

A new favorite!
THE COVEN has officially become one of my favorite reads of the year. It unites gothic with the dark academia aesthetic in a world of witches, demons and other supernatural creatures where the villain could get the girl and betrayal lurks at every flip of the page. Basically, if you loved Wednesday but want more enemies-to-lovers and spice, this is your book! It was definitely mine. The witchy vibe was immaculate, and the world building around it was so well done. The two main supernatural beings were witches—whose powers are classified by the elements they can wield, including necromancy (which is the rarest)—and Vessels, which are vampire-like bodies trapping demons. Witches and Vessels coexist through a pact made between witches and the Devil long ago, but don’t be fooled. This co-existence is anything but peaceful, and there’s so much backstabbing and plotting going on behind the scenes. The drama was delicious, and it never stops! The author did an incredible job layering the witch society with mystery, secrets, intrigue and manipulations, and this ultimately tied in brilliantly with the murders happening at Hollow’s Grove University. I am obsessed! The book’s greatest strength, however, lay with its characters. I fell in love with the protagonist, Willow, at the very first page. She’s the sort of no BS, strong female character I can’t help but love, but there’s also a gentleness to her that shines through in two instances: when she’s with her baby brother, and when she’s interacting with plants (which is a part of her power). On the other hand, all her fire comes out in every interaction with my beloved Gray, who is one of the Vessels and Headmaster of the school! If you love enemies-to-lovers banter and hate smexy times…these two will have you weak at the knees! The tension was golden, and you’ll be screaming by the end of the book. Trust me.

This book has it all: Mystery, Witches, a badass FMC, and a hot villainous MMC!
THIS WAS AMAZING! Definitely one of my favorite reads this year!“If it is order that you value, then I will bring you nothing but chaos.”I haven't been this OBSESSED about a story in a while! I'm still stunned...THIS WORKED PERFECTLY FOR ME. How will I survive the wait til August?!The Romance was freaking amazing! Like, they SERVED Villain gets the Girl!Gray was deliciously morally black. You love to hate him and hate to love him. His possessive site was hot, and I knew I shouldn't fall for him, but I did it anyway...ups 😮💨I LOVED how refreshing Willow was. She is not the typical clueless FMC discovering that she is actually a witch and has to attend this new school. No - Willow is a badass and has ulterior motives. The magic concept was creepy, and I was so here for it! A huge pet peeve of mine is having witches in your story, only to have them use their powers sparely. Not here.It gets messy here!I also loved the concept of witches and vessels. Vessels are like a mix of vampires and demons, so be prepared for a lot of bit îng 😏The ending has me counting down the days for book 2 to come out. August seems so far away! What am I supposed to do with myself?HIGHLY recommend!🗂Genre: Dark Paranormal Romance📕Type: Duology, #1🏷Tropes:- Witches & Demôns/ Vampires- Headmaster x Student- Villainous MMC x Badass FMC- Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden- Dark Academia & Gothic vibes- Mystery, twists & Secrets- Revénge- 🌶️📖Format: 1st person, Dual POV

OMG.
Im shocked. The ending shocked me. It was quite slow paced in the Beginning but as it went further and answers were answered it became thrilling and exciting. The author said even the villain deserved HEA and i thought how could Gray be the villain. I fell in love with him. But as the story progressed my jaw was literally on the floor! What an expected thing to happen. I was as shocked as Willow. Can't wait for the second book! I don't know how the author will redeem Gray but I'm willing to seee it
