Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has magic in his voice. No matter what I write, it will not be enough to convey the beauty of the music. You have to listen and enjoy it, you will.

Shahen Shah is the twenty-third album by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that I have added to my collection. In hindsight, it should have been one of the first, as for me it ranks highly as some of his best work. Highly recommended.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was up there with the gods of performance. I was lucky enough to see and hear him on a number of occasions. This is the great tradition still in a very pure form. There are other records where he makes concessions to the contemporary world. Well worth listening to too. For me this is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at his most magisterial, his most spiritual, and his his most exemplary performance of the ancient tradition. To my western ears brought up on the great Hindi musicians this music has very strong relations. In the Muslim tradition the great virtuosity is in the voice. Here you can experience wonderful parallels with the great sitar players of that other tradition. This music is ancient and in this performance totally alive and now. Most "World Music," is dreary second rate stuff. This is gold. This belongs with Imran Khan, Callas, Tortellier, Horovitz. Think I'm overstating it? Try singing along! The detailing has all the richness of great Muslim architecture.There are hundreds of recordings so I can only guess at it but I doubt there is a recording that improves much on this one. This is how I remember him.

Unfortunately I can't rate this any higher than five stars. It's sublime.

'Shahen Shah' von Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ist aus der riesigen Auswahl von Nusrat-Einspielungen und vor allem unnötiger Remixes ein positiv hervorzuhebendes Werk. Es enthält eingängige Lieder, die schnell zum Ohrwurm werden. Nusrats Stimme ist in Hochform. Die instrumentale und vokale Begleitung durch sein vielköpfiges Ensemble, welches einfach nur kurz die 'Party' genannt wird, ist voller Feuer. Am genialsten ist die tadellose Aufnahmequalität. Wohl keine andere Nusrat-Aufnahme ist mit so einem krassen Schall unterlegt - total sphärischer Sound! Unbedingt empfehlenswert! - Aber warum nur die Nummer 'Zwei'! Ich kenne viele Nusrat-Platten, aber mein unangefochtener Favorit, die Nummer 'Eins' ist und bleibt 'Pukaar - The Echo' von Navras Records Ltd. UK 2001, einfach ein Traum und unerreichbar schön. Zudem ist 'Pukaar' Ausdruck indisch-pakistanischer Völkerverständigung auf dem Gebiete der Musik, wenn sich die Hauptvertreter traditioneller Sufi- und Bhakti-Musik zum gemeinsamen Musizieren treffen! Wie so oft ist es die Musik, die Brücken bauen und Menschen zusammenführen kann. Meine Nummer 'Drei' ist eine selten angebotene Einspielung 'Poetry of Bulleh Shah' von Nupur Inc./Anant Electronics Ltd. 2002.

私ごとき彼の音楽の初心者が評価するのはおこがましいが、感想を述べる。すばらしいアルバムだと思う。ジャケット写真はイマイチだが中身はぴかいち。演奏、声のはり、曲目、どれも絶長期の瞬間だと思う。非常に安く購入できて大満足。

Nachdem mein Plattenspieler den Geist aufgegeben hat, freue ich mich, dass es jetzt die CD gibt. Erinnert mich an sein Konzert, das ich vor vielen Jahren hörte.
