Alba - the only worthwhile reason to see this remake of "The Deep"
I'm not exactly sure that Peter Benchley's "The Deep" needed to be remade, it was after all made into an entertaining movie starring Nick Nolte, Louis Gossett, Jr., Robert Shaw and the impossibly beautiful Jacqueline Bisset in 1977. But, fans of Jessica Alba are no doubt glad that it did get the OK since it gave Hollywood a chance to put the admittedly stunning Alba in a bikini for an extended period of time, eye candy that saves this movie that would otherwise hold little interest other than to mull over replacing the Blu-ray of "Into the Blue" in my player with the vastly superior Blu-ray of "The Deep.""Into the Blue" is a familiar plot for everyone who has seen "The Deep," and, if you haven't where have you been for the last three decades? An attractive young couple (replace Nolte with Walker and Bissett with Alba) are diving in the Caribbean when they come across a recently downed cargo plane that's packed with cocaine (vials of morphine in the book and "The Deep") which the two devise a plan to retrieve, much to the chagrin of some villainous characters.Did I mention that the only real reason to see this movie is Alba? This fumbling remake is mediocrity at its most well, mediocre. The movie pales in comparison to its much better origin material and only the photography and the sight of Alba in that bikini help elevate it from the bottom of the Blu-ray collection. So, how is the high definition Blu-ray in terms of video and audio quality, well - its actually pretty good and leagues ahead (pun intended) of its standard def DVD counterpart. The Blu-ray features a all-around good 1080p, 2.35:1-framed transfer which is sharp and bright. I mean if you want to marvel at Alba in a bikini, you want to in high def right?! Seriously though, the transfer is detailed with a wide array of colors with black tones good and skin tones natural. The good news continues with the audio with "Into the Blue" featuring a terrific PCM 5.1 uncompressed soundtrack with the above water scenes (rather obviously) the more robust of the movie with a strong sense of depth. This is a very immersive track and certainly more than adequate for the movie. The Blu-ray of "Into the Blue" features several special features with a serviceable audio commentary from Director John Stockwell leading the pack. I actually somewhat enjoyed this track because it provided a nice mix of anecdotal and technical information.Next up is a 20-minute Diving Deeper 'Into the Blue' which I was surprised to find quite interesting with a good portion devoted to world of underwater filmmaking. Rounding out the extras are 10 deleted scenes (running almost 18 minutes) with optional commentary by Stockwell and 1080p trailers for "Stealth," "Hitch," and "xXx.""Into the Blue" is never going to be a good movie, despite the appreciable attributes on display of Ms. Alba, but it does feature good audio and video and the Blu-ray is recommended. I would however check out the 1977 original "The Deep" which is better casted, scripted and all-around just plain better.

Good movie
Better than I remembered it. A bit cheesey and predictable, but worth the time to watch. Keeps you interested from start to finish.

Exhilarating and Gorgeous
Everything in this movie is gorgeous - the locations, cinematography (the underwater scenes are stunning), the main characters (great looking couple with the most beautiful skin you've ever seen). Also Paul and Jessica were dating during filming and it shows. The acting, editing, and music are very good. I'm not into action movies but this is an exhilarating, well paced movie that kept my attention from start to finish.

Yes, there is a plot to it
Jessica Alba's in a bikini. Jessica Alba's in the water in a bikini. Shark's in the water. Ashley Scott's in a bikini. Ashley Scott's in the water in a bikini. Shark's in the water. Paul Walker is in a swim suit. Paul Walker's in the water. Shark's in the Water. Yes, Jessica Alba's in the water in a very skimpy bikini before she has babies. And yes, there is a plot to this. And yes, there is a car sequence close to that one in Bullit and Yes, Jessica Alba's in a bikini. Do I have to say more? Paul Walker is bare chested and in the water. Do I really have to say more? And Yes, Jessica Alba looks hot. Very hot! In a bikini. You really NEED me to say more? And there is a plot and dialog and some violence and bad guys and YES Jessica Alba and Ashely Scott are in the water in bikini and they both look very hot. Oh, and there are sharks in the water and it's NOT CGI. If you get the real DVD or Blue Ray that hot girl Jessica Alba will tell you how she was in the water in a bikini with sharks! In the water. Yes! And there's also a plot!

"There's a shark. I swear to God. He's big. He' looks like Jaws. Get out." Blu ray review
There is so much to like about this little gem of a movie. Many say this is a remake of The Deep, and there are many similarities. The hot leads Walker and Alba (oh, she looks so good in this movie) are reminiscent to Nolte and Bisset (oh, she looks so good in that movie). The diving, treasure, drugs, drug dealers and sharks are all in both stories as well. However, this is a much better movie! Here come the crazy The Deep fans after me. The Deep was a very choppy story with some good scenes and decent acting (Robert Shaw is always awesome). Into the Blue really draws you in with the main plot and all the subplots. The dynamics of love, friendship, betrayal are well written and connects you to the characters. The mystery behind the Zephyr and the plane filled with cocaine is also compelling. Can you believe I am saying this about a movie with Paul Walker in it??? The action sequences are great, especially with the sharks (and yes that is Paul Walker swimming around with all those reef sharks around him). Give credit where it is due, this is a fun movie to watch.NOW FOR MY BLU RAY THOUGHTS: A beautiful transfer. The power of blu is evident in all the underwater sequences. On DVD the scenes look pixelated in areas of darkness. That is not the case with BD. The audio is also a nice mix. SPECIAL FEATURES: All ported over from DVD. FINAL THOUGHTS: Jessica Alba in a bikini in HD = UPGRADE!

INTO THE BLUE - BLURAY
The copy I received is BLURAY but has Walker and Alba in B/W nearly blue colour, but otherwise I guess it is the same as the full colour one here that I am told "I purchased". So...The transfer is excellent 2.35:1 ratio, good sound colour and subtitles. No extras. As a One star reviewer said, and I quote "not even a pert buttocked Alba can save this movie" (as near as dammit a quote). Sadly he is right. How could this film, with so much potential, including the aforementioned Alba in her prime, be just a bit boring? Answer - too much underwater filming where it is often hard to tell who is who or who is doing what to who(m), a rather pedantic script, and mainly unlikeable characters (Scott Caan and almost everyone else except Alba). Alba has a nothing part and it isn't enough to film her in a minikini and shorts, or co-star Ashley Scott (who almost outshines Alba, particularly in the minikini stakes). I make no apology for making a lot out of the lack of clothes, because the director certainly knew what would attract audiences. To be positive for a moment, there is someaction, an element of suspense, and a good show from a bewhiskered Josh Brolin, but I longed for a sharper script, better direction, and a bit more pizzazz from the actors. Sorry folks, but that's how I felt after watching the film. But I am sure many many viewers will disagree and love it, and as I said, the quality of the transfer is excellent, as is the current price.

Dive right in!
This is a great movie. It's sexy, slick and it's great to see some old faces like Josh Brolin. I like the late Paul Walker in his other movies and Jessica Alba is pretty go in this too. Josh plays "Bates" the rival/ex employer to Paul's Character "Jared" and they are all treasure hunters. Jared has gone out on his own trying to fix up a boat but has no money. Bates has the big boat with all the trimmings. The film is full of great sun bleached scenery and clear blue waters with a good mixture of action, intrigue, and a bit of suspense. There are some moving moments too, some great diving sequences and I really liked the story. For a Blu-ray it looks great and sounds really good too.Enjoy

Vanilla anyone?
If you're looking for an easy film to pass a rainy Saturday afternoon with. This will fit the bill. just switch off the ol' brainbox and watch the 'sploshuns. It's enjoyable enough. The picture quality is fantastic and deeply saturated with glorious colours. The sound is excellent too.As this was such a cheap buy, I thought I'd upgrade my DVD copy. I was a wee bit peeved that the Blu-Ray did not have any extra's whatsoever on it. At least the DVD had a Director's commentary, a making of featurette and deleted scenes. None are on the Blu-Ray. A plain old vanilla disc. Whatever happened to "More data capability of BD for all those extra's" Oh well. It just means my mate won't get my old cast off DVD. A poor show from Sony. Tsk tsk!

nice legs,shame about the face
Good lpcm audio track, watches as a movie rather than a 't.v movie',and under a fiver,...but the transfer could be alot more solid-it is like a wall of paint lacking that final coat which is a crying shame as this is a Sony bd,and their discs are always great & crammed with extras.Their are no extras here, but for under a fiver you don't mind.Suppose only worth its buck if you own a nice 5.1 surround system-unless just get the dvd down your local second hand record store.p.s-the product says region free but mine specifically is 'B',its clearly printed on the back.

He's into the blue
This is a great film to watch and very enjoyable to see. There is a storyline to this film despite of what other people might say about this. It's just a matter of listening and taking it all in so you can understand more. Anyone who's watched this film and doesn't understand about this film hasn't really listened and watched as the storyline unfolds. It's a very good film and one of many. I very much enjoyed seeing this film. And it's one that you'll like to see over and over gain and never get sick of.
