Not bad for a cheap device, but it doesn't measure up to the competition
EDIT 1/20/2018: I'm not sure if the company that makes this product read my review below and made improvemenst for the TuyaSmart app or if I missed this feature when I originally installed these for my mother, there is now a feature that allows me to have the switches come on automatically at sunset and turn off at sunrise. It's under a feature in the app called "Scenes." There are also "scenes" that allow you to set the device to turn on or off based on other conditions, such as temperature, humidity, weather, and air quality, making this device good to use on things like space heaters, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and air filters. I'm so impressed with these improvements to the app that I've changed my rating from three stars to five stars. What follows is my original review, but please disregard item #1.I bought two of these as a gift. I set them up and they work. The setup through the app was pretty simple. I would love to give this product five stars, but it loses two stars for the following reasons:1. The TuyaSmart app isn't very sophisticated. On other devices (like the Belkin WEMO switch), I can use the app to program them to turn on or off at sunrise or sunset, or 15 minutes before sunset, 15 minutes after sunrise, 30 minutes before or after, etc. Since the times of sunrise and sunset change as the days get longer during the summer and shorter during the winter, this is a convenient feature to have. This device is only programmable for set times, and it appears to be a shortcoming of the app.2. The switch isn't reliable. If your switch is programmed to be on from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and you lose internet or wifi before it comes on, the device will not perform as programmed. Evidently, the timer programming isn't stored on the device itself, it's stored elsewhere, perhaps on your phone's app or a server. Also, if the electricity goes out at 2:20 PM and comes back on at 2:30 PM, the switch will not turn itself on. This device could use some on-board memory and a software upgrade. This is a fine switch for simple tasks, like setting up indoor lights to turn themselves on and off while you're on vacation, but if you'd like to use it for something more important, like an air conditioner, an outdoor security light, or fish tank equipment, you might want something more reliable and flexible.

Always read the pros AND cons.
I usually tell it straight as I have experience with any product. The positives are all outlined in Rev. Moonshine review (the 1st one listed) but the cons aren't spelled out in most reviews. It is small and fits anywhere and I do like that but these are the issues I've had with my first Alexa Smart Home Device, this plug.First, you have to have a barcode/QR scanner to scan into your phone for directions. That is on a tiny 1 1/4" square piece of paper that comes with the plug. Throw out the packaging and you'll miss it, as some have complained about "no directions". Next, you have to separately download the Truyo App, which sucked 95.50 MB memory off my phone, really? Then this company wants your phone number and Wi-Fi password, register your information, another intrusive step. Then, you have to go into the Alexa app and coordinate the new smart plug with your app, make sure it works on both apps and by Alexa Voice. When all that is done, going though 2 apps and spreading my info though the Wi-Fi air, all I have to show for it is one light that goes on and off. Whoopee! Now I have to purchase another larger SD card for my phone, so as I add more Smart Home Devices to more lamps, coffee pots, etc, I'll need more memory to accommodate and go through this two step program again unless I purchase only another device from this exact same company. If not, won't I have to download each and every app attached to whatever brand plug I purchase. I can just see my phone screen with multiple company's apps, more memory used, my phone number and Wi-Fi password shared, etc. etc. etc.Wish I had this review to read before I locked into this one company. Now I'll have to use their further devices to save my time, energy and sources of my personal phone number! Ahhh. There was a time I had absolutely NO security issues. (maybe pre 90's lol).

Started off well
At first, I was so excited about this plug, it worked with my alexa, I could control it from my phone. I could turn the light on and off from my bed or the couch without getting up. Then after about a week it disconnected from alexa...every time i gave a command alexa would say that the plug was not responding. i unplugged it reset it, and it was fine, until the next day, it did it again. and it continued to do this every day until about 2 weeks later it just stopped working all together. I returned it. I get it was only like 15 dollars, but it should work for more than 3 weeks. Highly disappointed.

So far so good
I bought this as an experiment to see how well Echo/Alexa can actually control electrical devices. I used this plug for the Christmas tree. So far it's working flawlessly. Setting up to wifi was easy enough. I did have to perform a reset on the plug first and once that was done, it connected quickly to wifi. The only set up issue I had was that I didn't know and couldn't find in the instructions that after syncing to my wifi and the Smart Life app, I had to tell Alexa to look for devices.

Convenient, workable device
Seems to be mostly working fine, however sometimes it takes several verbal attempts for Alexa to get the lights turned on/off. I don't know which device has the issue. We do enjoy the convenience, especially when we've already gone downstairs and forgot to turn off the lights upstairs. Alexa picks up the normal speaking voice quite easily and the lights go out (most of the time on the first attempt).

This is actually a unit from TUYA and it works as described. The build quality is below WEMO or TP Link but the price difference covers it. It's a little flimsy, when removing the unit from an outlet the cases began to pull apart. Setup was easy enough, I had to run through it a few times to get it to work. Its cheap, it works, its not as customizable as others but it get the job done
