If this Jag is an automatic, certainly NOT. Among automatic transmissions, ATF-G will only fit Borg-Warner transmissions before they were taken up by the Toyota group under the name "Aisin Warner) and old Ford transmissions until some time in the mid 80s. BW transmissions were fitted to most English and Swedish automatics until the eighties.ATF-G lack the additives that are necessary on most other transmissions incuding Aisin-Warner, General Motors and ZF, which need Dexron II or Dexron III.Conversely, using Dexron II or Dexron III in a Borg-Warner will ruin the transmission as it will slip too much and overheat.-----Other uses for ATF type G: -damper oil in SU or Stromberg carburetters (found mainly in English and Swedish cars plus some Mercedes) -it can be used in power steering systems but Dexron is better for this applicationHowever, ATF-G is recommended in many manual transmissions including classic Chryslers and Volvos.To summarise: -AUTOMATICS: pre-198* English (Triumph, MG, Jaguar, Riley)... and Swedish (Volvo, Saab 3 speed auto) : BW transmission hence ATF type G (type F will do) pre-198* Fords: ATF type G (or F) all 4 speed (or 3 speed + overdrive) automatics: Dexron II or Dexron III all GM and VW automatics: Dexron II or III all ZF transmissions (Peugeot 4 speed auto, BMW, Volvo 700 900 and later) Dexron II or IIIOn manual transmissions: -French and Italian cars: SAE 75 or another thick gearbox oil -some German and most Swedish cars: SAE 30, synthtic engine oil or ATF type G. Dexron is not recommended as the Dexron additives will prevent the synchromeshes from working properly. ATF type G will provide best fuel efficiency.
