Outstanding companion book to the PMBOK 5ed
This book demystifies the PMBOK. It is aptly named "A Users Guide...". Throughout the book, you'll find simple explanations for PMBOK concepts, supplemented with great examples to provide needed context. The book is organized in a logical manner, following the flow of initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and close. That's how we think of things. Each of the discrete processes of the ten knowledge areas are placed in context of the process flow. That means when we're learning about running (executing) a project, we can see what knowledge we need to have. Very logical and much easier to grasp than most companion books on the market (which are focused on the PMP exam rather than learning project management). The author seems to understand where we'd be puzzled, and provides sidebars, templates, and other supplements to bring us into focus. I balked a bit when I saw the price, but it's easily justified. If there was a best of breed award, this would be a strong contender.

Excellent book, highly recommended
This is a very good book. Easy to understand, very detailed, excellent. I would highly recommend this book to anyone intending to take the PMP exam and for those PMP's that earned their certification using PMBOK 3 or 4 to update their project management skills and knowledge.

Ready for the Exam
I own the 5th Edition PMBOK but didn't really want to read through it as I was prepared to take the test before it changed in August. This book was a great supplement.

A reworded version of the PMBOK guide
The media could not be loaded. Did you love the PMBOK Guide so much that you would pay for someone to reword it, section for section? If so, this book is for you. But, I don't think many people fit into that category. This book has just about as much confusing language as the PMBOK guide. It's just reworded. It does take out all of the references to the other sections, which I didn't like in the PMBOK Guide. Things like"Organizational Process Assets. Described in Section 2.1.4" are entirely removed. And, it does have some break out boxes with examples. But, those are the only things going for this book. Most project management books that I've read are boring, and this one is no exception. It's a section-by-section rewording of the PMBOK Guide, and many sections have almost the same wording as the guide, so it's not even very original. I didn't feel that this helped me very much for the PMP test. But, if your boss is making you learn about project management and you really don't want to actually learn it, this would be a better book to skim than the PMBOK Guide.Pros:+Covers the fifth edition+Has different examples than the PMBOK guide+It covers almost all of the material in the PMBOK guide, but with about half the number of pagesCons:-Confusing language, even though it's supposed to be simple and easy to understand. This book will put you to sleep more than once, I guarantee it.-Copies all of the illustrations from the PMBOK Guide-The sample forms in the back are unusable, because they have "SAMPLE" stamped all over them. Plus, they're all copied from A Project Manager's Book of Forms , so you might want to get that book instead.

This book can erect a bridge between each individual's field of Project Management and the PMBOK Guide which is a standard. This manual explains the PMBOK guide while using Process Groups(Initiating Process Group, Planning Process Group, Executing Process Group, Monitoring and Controlling Process Group, and Closing Process Group) identified by PMI, rather than Knowledge Areas. Therefore it comes to easier for a reader to apply the concepts, tools, and so forth in the PMBOK Guide as a standard to their real fields, compared to reading only the PMBOK Guide. This book is a convenient manual for everyone to understand the essence of the PMBOK Guide.
