I bought this book to learn about orchids and to practise drawing and painting them

I bought this book for its illustrations, but the text is wonderfully informative as well. My favourite book on orchids.

This is a tremendously valuable introduction to the Orchids of Europe. Each genus has a page of introductory text, with a good practical guide to their identification. This is then followed by detailed and very beautiful paintings of each European species of the respective genus. I don't think you could find a better expert than Pedersen to introduce you to a love of wild orchids. And certainly no better artist than Bo Mossberg. The combination of Pedersen's practical guidance and the very detailed illustrations should enable you to identify any species in the wild, although hybrids will still stump you. My only criticism is that this is a far too beautifully produced book to take out in the field! But it has a permanent place on my desk!
